Option 2 for me too!

I personally feel that their Super Ideal cuts are overpriced. They are nothing but tip top 3 Ex stones with a fancy name. If you are tight on budget, get an ideal cut and max out on carat with F VS2 lowest.

Emphasis added. I don't necessarily agree that they are overpriced, it's just you get diminishing returns on quality as you go higher up on the cut quality ladder, i.e. you pay more for each small improvement in cut quality.

But to each his own, some may feel that the last 5-10% improvement in cut quality is worth the price premium of a JP "Super Ideal", or a Whiteflash "A Cut Above" or any of the other brand names, but some may not feel the need to splash more cash for an increase in quality which is likely not noticeable by most naked eyes.

I'd agree on the F though. Given your choices, the largest (possibly) noticeable difference which you can attain is by upgrading to a diamond in the colourless range as opposed to the near-colourless range.

I would like to know if it is a wise idea to upgrade my current diamond of choice 0.41 f vs1 super ideal cut to 0.44 g vs2 both are from jannpaul. Price difference is 50-100$.

Do u think the price i paid for my 0.41 f vs1 super ideal cut is worth it? Here are the pictures aset/hca/idealscope including gia cert.

They made me a video of the diamond i reserved.

https://youtu.be/fmDzC1nDeTg

Is it me or does the 2nd diamond look darker? That's the Ideal 0.38 F VS1 right ? I can tell the cut isnt as good as the Super ideal though. If there's a budget, I will consider changing the 0.38 to a Super ideal instead or sticking with the 0.41 one.

What u are looking at is a high end Ideal vs a Super ideal from JP. Online sites Ideal cut have HCA that goes all the way up to even 4 (maybe more I dont know, but that was one I came across). As mentioned here before, JP has very strict criteria for the Super ideal. If u are confused with your video link, this is what he means by tilt (time for some league lol).

Looks like slight movement already caused the diamond to go dark. To me, I personally prioritise cut over any thing else because its visually more impactful. When your gf is wearing her ring and the centre goes dark everytime she moves it, whats the point in color and clarity. In conclusion, clarity and color is won't be on my priority list.

Thanks draculav. So u think 3.1k for a 0.41 f vs1 (super ideal cut) with classic solitaire setting is a good price already?

How is jannpauls diamond compare to other store brands like leehwa, tiffany, meyson, etc?

Ive also heard about larrys..

Ive also heard about jamesallen and whiteflash and blue nile. Any comments regarding these online sellers?

Or should i just buy on carousell then have the diamond polish and change the setting? Haha!

Just want to make the most of my hard earned $$$ =:p

No the one on the video is the first one i reserve 0.38 f vs 1(idealcut) i mentioned earlier against the new one i change to 0.41 f vs1 (super ideal cut).

Im really concern with the ideal super ideal so i change to super ideal.

Do u think i made the right decision? I bought a 0.41 f vs1 with setting classic solitaire cathedral diamond for 3.2k? Thanks!

What made me think twice is the price difference of 50-100$ for these 2 below.

0.41 f vs1 (super ideal cut)
0.44 g vs2 (super ideal cut)

Looking forward for your advise. Thanks!

What is the price difference between a Super ideal Cut and an Ideal Cut?
I assume JP only have super ideal, and HoH provides the Ideal?

You can scroll back to check the prices. I think what you got for it is fine. Their prices are quite standard.

I've got a lot of things to say about others but rather not... All I can say is theres a reason why those brick and mortar stores won't show you their diamonds with the ASET scope :s13:

You can't go wrong with a JP diamond. They already filter the best of the best for you. The rest is adjusting the other specs to best suit your preference.

Actually, my opinion, JP diamonds are mostly (almost tempted to say all) okay.
Just that there is a slight premium to it.

To source for good deal, JP is never a good place. They source for the better ones, and charge you premium for their efforts (fair enough).

As the bro mentioned below, you can't go wrong with JannPaul's diamonds, especially their signature series - Super Ideal, Octagon, Brellia, etc. - cuz only the best stones make the cut.

Tiffany no need see lar. 80% of what you pay is for the branding itself haha. Lee Hwa, SK, Soo Kee, those buy at your own risk lor. Cuz all they can provide is the basic H&A scope, which tells you practically nothing about light performance haha.

James Allen and White Flash ok. Cuz they provide 360-degree visualisation and you can request for ASET images. But not all diamonds in James Allen have ASET image, only those in their warehouse in New York have. I bought once from James Allen. They are 100% legit, no hanky panky, no dirty stuffs. But when your item arrives in Singapore, you have to pay GST lar haha.

Blue Nile = buying blind.

By far for their quality, they are one of the cheapest I've ever seen.

Care to elaborate more on some examples with a better deal? If you're comparing non super ideal, i believe JP's ideal prices are also among the lowest.

I am pretty sure online retailers do have good deals... Just that not all diamonds available are good. You just need to do the categorizing yourself, and scanning through for excellent diamonds without the "defects"
And generally, I find them cheaper.

Whereas JP do charge a premium (compared to online) but no doubt they provide very good products. I remember there is another place WD, there is giving JP a run for its money.. They are a little cheaper....

And don't get me wrong. I will totally recommend and suggest JP to anyone who are in the market for good diamonds, just that for those "value buyers"... JP may not exactly be what they are looking for.

Mainly because I see many who wanted to know if they are getting a good deal, or the best deal. In general, you are paying for good stuff at JP. And they charge you for it. I cannot say they are the best deal, but reliability wise they are good deal. Buy and not worry about it too much. However, if want to know if they are the best dollar for specs.. and maybe if you are an expert, and able to source it through online retailers, local shops, boutiques... they may not be the best dollar for dollar place.

I actually did what you've mentioned all above. haha.

Just that with the current exchange rate and including the 7% GST imposed to us after shipment and considering the after-purchase care (free re-sizing, polishing, 100% upgrade by JP), I've concluded it's more worthwhile to get from JP.

As for WD, I've been there and it wont be easy to find a good piece with your preferred color/clarity there as they've really very limited stocks and my top concern on them are, they are like a 'part time business' run by few partners - lack of stability and can be closed down anytime.

I'm actually a value hunter too, just trying to find out what other lobang you might have discovered, nothing offensive. haha.

No la, not offended.
Just in case you somehow represent JP :s13:

I am just an independent forum participant. Saw many similar question about the value of a diamond, especially so for those who went to JP. So, to answer all brother's questions in term of the pricing (not value).
JP does charge a little premium for the work they do... maybe then, for those who read.. will know you not necessary pay the cheapest, but you pay for a certain guarantee quality.
