Only area where JP is unable to compete is the branding. JP is a relatively unknown brand, outside of Singapore.

Surprisingly, many Malaysians are aware of the JannPaul "brand".

Yup, but I believe those sold at JannPaul and House of Hung are quite safe. If you are still skeptical, you can always request for them to show you the diamond under high magnification and locate the feathers right there.

As a marketing guy, I know and appreciate the "power" of branding.
If you are a guy, who are willing to pay for the brand instead of the product. Then okay. Of course, if you are like me, who cannot afford the brand.. then no need to consider.

Haha but I think in terms of branding, engagement ring aspect I don't think it will work as well as other stuff like bags because no one can identify a brand from a diamond, unless the wearer extremely self promote their ring and brand on social media and everywhere, no one will really know if it's branded or not....maybe just how big and shiny it is haha

Generally for Super ideal and other signature cuts, JP only brings in the top quality ones, even for the lowest clarity their carrying (VS2), only the top tier VS2 are brought in, they personally do inspect and ensure they won't bring in any diamond with a risk of chipping.

If you do a thorough comparison on JP's Super Ideal VS2 and other VS2 from whiteflash/James Allen etc you will notice that JP's VS2 has significantly lesser inclusions as compared to other vendor's VS2. JP does a very strict job on the diamonds they bring in. (I'm not sure for ideal cuts tho as they belongs to HOH and not JP)

It is pretty obvious this is a JP dominated thread. Is there really no point in considering other brick and mortar jewelers for the most part?

Based on what I have read.. it is mostly:

1.) JP
2.) JA
3.) all the rest.

My Love & Co ring has begun to turn "yellowish" after about 6 months of wearing!

My jp proposal ring still looks good after 1 year of wearing. But i agree that the bottom part without side diamonds is turning dull with scratches.

Getting my husband to upgrade my ring for 3rd anniversary. Wahahaha.

I agree, and also disagree.

It works the same with people who study in depth, if that is what they are going for.

The "Brand" creates some sort of intangible effect. Like I say, it is mainly a feel good factor. (For those who goes for branding)
We do know Hermes provides good quality bags, but does the bag provides 10,000 times of the quality as a say 100 dollars bag?
We do know Continental cars (Merc, BM, Jag, Audit, etc) provides good quality cars, but do they provide 2 or 3 times the car a Honda, Toyota can make?
Nissan GTR is a lot faster than Porsche, a lot more reliable (I might be wrong on this one), but a lot cheaper. If we take away the labeling, the choice is clear. (at least for me)

So many times where we get something for a brand, and knowing that may not be the best in the category.

Your current one very small meh? Also from JP? I personally think there's no need to upgrade engagement ring as there's significant sentiment (unless the diamond is really small then maybe understandable la)

one of my friend buy gold ring from tiffany n co without diamond as proposal ring, because got resale value, unlike diamond rings. Mutually agreed.

Eh...I don't think there's much resale value in that too lol. Tiffany and co's gold ring are heavily marked up with low gold content and the demand in resale market for gold ring from a designer brand is extremely low, meaning to say the value of the gold ring will fall back to the value of the gold content (which is low for Tiffany co, you're technically paying 3k for the amount of gold content that worth less than 600) as for Tiffany Co diamond ring, altho diamond itself doesn't worth much in value, but there's still a significant resale value for designer diamond ring due to much higher demand. (Example a 10k Tiffany Co diamond ring could easily resell for 7-8k, but a 3k Tiffany gold ring, you might only be able to fetch 1k+)

I thought the resale value of diamonds would hold up relatively well despite being non-branded? Or am I totally misguided?
