What was the damage?

Had my ring resized bigger. Wife fingers inflated abit after pregnancy. Ring is almost 6 years old and after resize, looks brand new again :) They will repolish and replate the ring too so all the scratches are gone. Service at JP is impeccable as usual. I asked if they can shun bian replate my whitegold chain and they did it FOC.

Now my wife like wearing a new ring again.

FYI, diamond is a 0.5ct. I think its just nice and already looks quite big.
It might be due to the cut that the diamond looks bigger too. I've seen 0.6-0.7ct rings and they look the same size as mine.. :D

I like the ring so much. Can I have more information of it. thanks.

Hey guys, I had place a deposit of 500 at House of Hung but had decided to drop the deal.

I'm willing to let someone take over the deposit with a discount of 20%.
You could change it to other diamond or other item in the shop.*

Its a Super Ideal Cut from Jannpaul. They'll give a diamond education and explain all the details and show the differences. The setting design can customize to anything you want. Its by appointment so best is to call before you head down.

Update on my design progress:

Decided to scrap the dragon idea and go for a flower bloom type of design. Had a few rounds of discussion with their designer and had the opportunity to meet Jann. He was editing some part of the design on the spot! Quite impressed by it. Took a photo of how of him halfway editing it.

This is the prototype design of what I'm heading towards. He still wants to make some adjustments. The inside part of the ring is rose gold and the outer white part will be in enamel. Has anyone tried using enamel in part of the ring design before? Super excited to see the outcome of this.

Just wondering, if u make the design inside rose gold, isit going to cause the diamond to appear yellowish? Since it’s a reflection of lights.

The design looks good tho. :)

Hi peeps, totally a newbie here. I have been looking around for a proposal ring. Was offered this diamond GIA Number: 2258180479 (0.63 Carat, Colour E, VVS2, E/E/E) $3,276 without setting.
Any kind souls are able to advise me is this worth it?

Btw, i understand most people here swear by Jann Paul but is there any other places for recommendations? What are your opinions on Meyson and Far East Gem?

I used the HCA tool (google HCA tool) and the diamond you mentioned got a score HCA 5.0. That means it’s not a well-cut diamond and there’s light leakage so it won’t be as sparkly as a diamond with a score of HCA less than 2. I would avoid for sure even if the price is attractive - I paid JP $4,800 for my 0.624 diamond.

I personally have done some repairs at CJ diamonds (cjdiamonds.sg) and I know two people who have bought beautiful 1 ct halo rings from him at attractive prices (10k++ including the diamond halo setting). I saw one of those rings in person and it was really pretty and definitely sparkled although I don’t know the specifics. I would definitely make an appt with him (Peter) if you’re looking for options because he has good prices, far better than retail stores. The bad part is that his office is rather difficult to get to via public transport (Boon Keng MRT) but I think getting quotes from him is worth it if you are looking for value. His craftsman is also really really good and I love the work he’s done for me.

Overall I feel that you should only purchase diamonds with HCA score below 2. Salespeople like to tell you about color and clarity but at the size of 0.624 it’s very likely that VS2 or SI1 will be eyeclean to you and your wife. So I personally would go down in color and clarity and go up in size for the same budget.

You can also go to JP and ask them for an ideal cut diamond instead of a Super Ideal cut diamond, because the ideal cut diamond will be cheaper but probably still may be able to have a HCA score that’s below 2.

I was told that the ideal cut would be an SIC if not for the fluorescence.. But no idea if I should be concerned about the faint fluorescence.. I had a look see under the sun but couldn't tell the difference.. Then there is the trade in value.. The ideal cut doesn't have any trade in value..

Sigh hard to. Make a choice
I think you should discuss with your wife about the trade-in value.

If I’m you and I don’t intend to trade in the ring in future, I would definitely go for the bigger ideal cut. It’s significantly bigger and about the same price. Fluorescence doesn’t matter if you never intend to trade in the ring and you want to keep it forever. And it really looks very close to Super Ideal diamond (if you want to see the cut mess that is typical of ideal cut diamonds, just search randomly on James Allen).

For me the problem with the JP trade-in value is that as the diamonds get bigger, even if I want to trade-in for an ideal cut diamond in House of Hung, the diamond prices are still very expensive compared to GIA 3EX diamonds w HCA score less than 2 on James Allen. So basically it makes more sense for me to buy a diamond online if I want to upgrade size rather than to trade-in with JannPaul. I looked at some JP Super Ideal trade-ins and they suggested topping up $3000++ to go up to 0.81 ct from 0.624. I really cannot see much difference in size but the difference costs me $3000++. If I upgrade I want to do a really eyes-can-see-difference kind of upgrade rather than a small one that costs a lot of money. Anyway that’s my experience with the trade-in value.

So maybe think about what kind of trade-in you may want in future. Like how much bigger with what budget? Will your wife want to change this diamond since it probably has sentimental value? If she is already happy with this size and doesn’t foresee any trade-in, then I really think it’s a good deal (because of the fluoro) for people not intending to ever sell the diamond or trade-in.

Octagon from JP

Hi All

Recently went down to JP and choped this diamond.

It's a 0.597 carat, G, VVS2.

I cant help but think it's a little off symmetry, especially for the 1 and 2 oclock arrows and the middle part. And especially seeing other posts on this forum. I guess you cannot really see it without the scope but just want to get a little feedback from you gais.

Nice design. Looks one of a kind. Did you come up with this or they come it up for you?

I think it’s ok. If it’s not symmetrical, they won’t put it in their Diamond range already. You got the Hearts scope image? That one is too see it’s symmetry too

The H&A scope looks okay, but the top arrows don't sit well with me somewhat :s11:

That diamond’s proportion is very very bad. There’s no point in going for a high color and clarity if the cut is not good. End up the diamond will look like plastic. I suggest to start by finding a diamond with good proportions using the HCA and then further check the light return with the Aset scope then symmetry with the Hearts scopes.
After that, you’ll learn more and more... and eventually it’ll bring you back to JannPaul.. lol
You’ll know the reason why after you looking around

Hey guys, I’m selling a 0.624 G VS2 JannPaul Super Ideal Cut diamond that was purchased for $4,800 in store. I’m selling it for $3,500. The report number is AGS ‪104086598007 and the HCA score is 1.2. My reason for selling is because I want to upgrade to a bigger secondhand stone that I’m eyeing. Send me a PM if you’re interested!
