So for JP, even if I'm taking classic plain settings, it's also handmake?

Sent from dala dala using GAGT

All their rings are handmade in your design. Iirc, the plain settings will cost 550. When you customize, they will do up all the 3d and wax for you. Mine took about 6 weeks to make. It depends on how complex your design is also.

Does poh Kim sell super ideal cut diamonds? Or only JP does? I understand for scope-wise super ideal and triple excellence cut both looks roughly the same (to me at least).

“Triple ex=good” is actually not true because a triple ex diamond can still have significant light leakage and dark ring of death under the table. Which is pretty bad. This is a myth that is heavily emphasized by typical jewelry stores, and it is a super big lie.

So what we want to compare is triple ex+HCA below 2 +aset Images look good = our definition of ideal cut diamond. And we call it “ideal cut diamond” vs. JP’s precision-cut, super ideal cut diamond.

Poh Kim does not sell super ideal cut diamond. They sell maybe ideal cut. They do have hearts and arrows scope and aset scope so you can check for light leakage. Libra84 on pages 15-17 of this thread shared his experience w Poh Kim. He said he was shown the hearts and arrows and aset. From the picture, the hearts and arrows were not totally symmetrical if you are looking for very symmetrical (JP’s were more symmetrical if I’m not wrong). He ended buying a diamond from Poh Kim at a good price and two of my other friends have also done so.

Still, you can’t compare as JP’s ideal cut selection is more stringent for really top quality w higher prices (note that they carry super ideal cut AND ideal cut) while Poh Kim (ideal cut but different standards) is attractive to customers based on price+decent quality.

So in diamonds, in reputable stores you do pay for what you get. Except in mall stores those are totally overpriced for the bad quality and cheat based on lack of customer’s knowledge.

I guess in summary...

Poh Kim's Semi Ideal followed by JP Ideal followed by JP Super Ideal in terms of quality and price, hence if someone don't mind getting a less ideal but slightly better than average triple excellent, Poh Kim will offer the better pricing.

How about their ring settings and customization instead?

Is Tianpo good? It's different from Poh Kim right?

Sent from dala dala using GAGT

Tianpo is a different brand, just like Leehwa, SK, etc.
Tianpo has their own Ideal Cut range called Hearts on Fire and its v exp. The last time I checked, it was almost double the price of JP's Super Ideal cuts and its not even as good. lol

I think it all boils down to the quality. Lower quality will be lower price. I guess why JP is so popular is because they have the best quality but at lowest price. For those that don't need such a good quality, there are many other choices out there. Though I will rather go for quality first.

Their Hearts on Fire is not bad. It is an Ideal cut.
Its just that you can get an even better quality (Super Ideal Cut) at a cheaper price at JP :s13:

All the big known brands have their own sig branded diamond which are good, but the thing is, they overprice it, as compared to Jann Paul's super ideal, you can get similar or even better ones at the lower pricing.

Hi anyone knows how much a halo at JP will cost together with a 0.7-.8 super ideal centre diamond. Clarity Vs1 or vs2 can already. Colour G/H. Any idea?

What do you guys think about this:

GIA REPORT NUMBER
2277479049

Link here

Quoted $2.1K

Proportions are ok. HCA score is 1.5 with the Scintillation grade as ''Very Good''. Ideally it should be Excellent. It will be more helpful if you have the scope images to see.

I saw on the certificate, it has a knot inclusion le. Knots are crystal inclusions *that rise up to the surface of the diamond and exposed to the surface area. This is very risky in the long run and can damage the diamond.

I’m buying wedding rings as well. My gf and I decided we will skip the proposal/engagement ring, just use wedding ring as engagement ring, doesn’t make too much difference. So far planning to get a pair of Cartier 18k rose gold rings. Hers will have a tiny diamond because diamond’s price is kind of artificially inflated, it’s not even that rare, so for us it feels ripped off to pay so much for a big diamond.

They dont carry H color for super ideal.

I believe 0.8 G color VS2 should be around 9k+, Halo setting should be around 1.1k-1.2k. Total budget of 10-11k should be enough, lesser if u opt for 0.7ish

Big names have all the marketing, rental, etc priced in.

Cut out the celebrity endorsements fees, cut out the TV/Magazine/Radio advertisement fees, cut out rental of fancy shops at shopping malls, keep the same quality or better, pass the savings to the customers, and you have Jann Paul. Actually there are quite a few of these kinda shops for the other parts of the ring, but Jann Paul seems specialize the most in diamonds.

Same deal with almost anything else we buy anyway.
