The girdle is considered dead weight as it adds little other than caret and $$

JP likes to pick med-slightly thick as they want to minimise setting risk. I’m aware of jewellers chipping stone when setting n had to bear the cost.

3% is considered thin-medium which of course maximise the cost or value of the price u paying, since the full value is on the stone and not the girdle

Need some opinions. Im deciding between a 0.55ct E VS1 and 0.53ct G VS1. Both are JP SIC. Price difference is $550.

When I see from the diamond behind, the yellowness is clear. After seeing this, I was quite set to go for the E color one.

Left - 0.53ct G VS1
Right - 0.55ct E VS1

But then when I see from the front, the color difference is less clear. I can only tell which is which at some angles but most of the time its the same. They told me color is more obvious on white background. so I compare them on my palm. My logic is when she wear the ring, itll be in this same background color too.

Left - 0.55ct E VS1
Right - 0.53ct G VS1

This is the 0.53ct G VS1. On its own, it looks white.

I videoed the same diamond under their counter where theres no spotlight. The diamond still looks great! I think it looks even whiter. I was told this was to do with it being a better cut and better light return. More light reflecting back out will make it brighter and whiter.

Qns
1. I was quite set on the 0.55ct E VS1 initially because I didnt like the yellow in the G. Only when I see see from the front, it was ok. I can make out which is which but not at first glance. Do people usually see the diamond ring on the side view? I can imagine if she sits down and hands on the table, the person sitting opposite will mostly see the side view of the ring no?

2. Even if I'm ok with it, I'm not sure if my GF will be ok. What color do girls usually choose?

Ive already placed a deposit for the G and have the option to change it for the E by next week. Unsure if I should just top up $550 for the E or save the $$.

There’s no clear cut answer to this to be honest, you’re already affected and concerned by the color differences u see using the white background, if paying $550 more can make yourself feel better and 550$ aren’t a lot of money for you, just pay the $550 and no more mind f*k.

Q1. U are viewing the stone unmounted. Why dun u ask them to take out 2 rings with mounted stones. Even if from the side, I would say u can’t make it out once mounted

Q2. I would only take the G if u telling me it’s bigger. The G is not even bigger. For $550 for a slightly bigger caret n 2 color grades up and piece of mind....

Tts the thing. On white background Im no comfortable. On ring/skin Im ok at the front. No so much on the side. If its like $200-300 more I will sure for go it. $550 makes me reconsider.

The G is 0.02ct smaller. They both look the same size to me.

This thread is an amazing treasure trove of information!

What carat size round brilliant diamond would you peeps say is appropriate for ring size US 4.75? It can’t be too big or too small - really tricky and subjective.

You are right. They are virtually the same. Only bigger ct on paper.

But what I was trying to imply was that pple who drop color, do so with the view of either maxing budget or getting a bigger caret.

The ring is going to be sitting on her finger (skin color). How often is she going to be in a clean white room with fluorescent lighting?

Here’s a challenge, enlarge or zoom only as big as the width of your finger n tell me the color...

Yes, there’s a tinge. Would it bother you? Only u can decide how mind clean u want it to be

ceOQkkK.jpg

Ps. The background wall was actually whitish and I only brightened the photo slightly with no changes to color

You have a point. I'm getting more swayed to the G. I feel like Ill need to explain this to her. I asked her friends and they all told me to get the high color one. Pengz.

The left one is the lower color? Picture is blur when I zoom in. The left one can tell its darker than the right, though I cant really see the yellow. Your ring casing looks very very nice and well made. Where did you get it from?

If this is the case I’ll rather u get E.

Don’t need go thru the hassle of explaining so much and even after explaining, it doesn’t mean that they accept the explanation, I’ll save all these drama and spend the 500 lol
