or this (bigger but same price as the one u recommended due to discount)? :)

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/.../0.715-h-si1-round-diamond-ags-c-104106841005

CAGS-104106841005-ASET.jpg

What I learnt from my recent diamond sourcing experience:

  1. Set a budget.
  2. Look for biggest diamond that u can't tell the difference within the set budget.

All 3 diamonds have SIC dimensions. The G-VS2 might be even classified under JP-SIC. H colour will never be JP-SIC. If can't see the difference, I will go for the 0.715.

However, the 0.715 has significantly more flaws (need to click the AGS cert to see) than the other 2 VS2. I can't comment on the flaws, though the website states the stone is eye-clean. Better let bro Miltah advise on this.

Thanks again- my budget is about 4k including ring setting :)
I managed to get help to send the diamond to a relative staying in the States who be coming back in early Dec - wish to ask a few very noob questions:

1- does local shop need more than 3-4 weeks to set the ring? any shop recommendations, pls?

2- how do those of us who bought overseas and set the ring locally verify that the diamond after setting is still the one we bought?

3- how does the delivery take place - will they just dump the parcel outside the door if nobody is around to receive it?

4 - any idea if BG normally have black friday sales that are worth waiting?

Appreciate!

Among online there’s only 3 in-hse vetted stones that I would buy from. BGD, whiteflash and crafted by infinity.

Traditionally, whiteflash is usually the cheapest but has the most variations in quality. CBI being the most ex.

I’ve always felt the BGD blacks are overrated for the price. Whereas the signature range with current discounts provide good value.

Of the 3 stones, the 0.615 and 0.715 are actually the closest to JPs spec. H color will never be JP SIC not because of the cut but purely cos they choose not to stock it.
The lower colors of G and H works for u as u going for rose gold.

The 0.715 looks fairly decent with good symmetry. However u need to decide if u can live with the SI1 clarity. Note that clarity is assessed via 10x magnification.

@jonleek himself got a SI1 called in. I’m sure he can vouch the eye clean nature of a vetted stone.

Appreciate a lot, Miltah!
Any idea if Black Friday is typically worth waiting for purchase at BGD?

How does the delivery typically take place?

BGD has never discounted the blacks. The current discount is as good as it gets. Last years black Friday also only 8%.

Delivery via FedEx to your place but note that anyone in the premise can sign for it. Insurance on the package stops once it’s signed for.
If u want more security, request to pick up at FedEx or the DHL office, there they will require a photo id before release.

Gst is paid by FedEx who will then send u the bill after.

Possible.

HOH dun stock SI clarities but they have low colors like J and K

If u want higher color, the only option is online superideal vendors with vetted lower clarity such as SI1 and SI2

Thanks for your input Miltah! I think I’ll go down and take a look, if I feel that it’s a little too yellow for my taste, I might go to private jewelers to have a look. See if anything meets the SIC standards haha

Hopefully they don’t diss my criterias, have heard many stories about people going to other jewelers in search of SIC standards only to have them say not much difference or that it’s just a marketing scheme. Worse is if they anyhow intro diamonds that are totally not in the specs. I will gaowei lol

Worst case is maybe just settle for the biggest HOH IC I can get, cause I not comfortable with getting something so exp online haha

Go around and ask to see G to J colors.
Find out your lowest color tolerance and come back to me. I might be able to find u something locally

--Is there a way to see the inclusions and their locations in the SI1 diamonds in the scope/ images provided in the BGD page?

--any idea if the I color will work for rose gold?

Thanks!

- u click on the ‘verify’ under report. This will bring up the AGS report with inclusion plot

- Color is personal. I and J color is still in the near colourless range. In a single stone solataire setting, u could even go J if u wanted. But would u be happy with J? H and I are safer bets

Appreciate, jonleelk :):)

Can i ask for ur opinion on how does the above compare w the below (w usd$500 diff after discount for lower-end signature diamond)

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...2-round-diamond-ags-104105318079#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/1/

Hi tree, I just released my deposit for a HOH Ideal 0.62 H VVS2 last Sunday. GIA number 1338626385, around the same price as your online 0.61 H VS2 but with higher clarity. I'm not sure if still available but you can check with them. I originally reserved it when I went down myself, then brought my gf down on weekend to see. But after seeing for some time, we found it too yellow and changed to JP's SIC F Color. I'll pm you the details

Once u put 2 diamonds next to each other to compare, G and onward will start to look a bit yellowish.

i told my gal and we are choosing rose gold so color is ok for us but we are concerned about the cut - any idea if pav angle 40.6 makes it less ideal compared to the BGD diamonds, including this one ?

Proportions are good and in the SIC range. Technically, 40.6 pav is better as it give out more brightness. Youll need to check the scopes first. All these numbers have no meaning without the scopes.

Thanks! It's still in the talking stage. I'm waiting for the wax to be out to confirm the design first. The plan is to make the ring in parts and see which are the easy parts I can get involved in. No need to pay extra :D Jann was the one that suggested it knowing my carpentry work. They've been nothing short but amazing so far.

I saw this video online on couples crafting their wedding bands.. very cool too.

This one is JP's video of the ring mounting. I doubt I'll be doing the complicated parts but maybe the tightening or shaving? Going to get a friend to help me flim and use this in my proposal or wedding video :D

I see... keep me updated how it goes! I wanna ask if I can be involved too!

Dear Miltah and all,
My elder Sis suggests princess cut stones for the money I am paying, for best value - is it true the latter has same brilliance as a round diamond?

Appreciate!

Princess cut cheaper than a round? Yes
Princess same brilliance as round? No

Princess is much less brilliant. Depends if your gf likes square shape too.
You can ask @goglenngoh. He was looking for square diamonds then settled for the Octagon for the brilliance.

Best u chk with your gf what she prefers as opposed to best value.

It is less expensive by caret vs round as there’s less wastage.

U also have to accept that there’s not going to be perfect symmetry with the facets of square. It’s just a different ‘look’

Princess also tends to chip due to the corners. Best u get the stone and the jeweller from the same place to set so u are covered if it chips.
