Just to share abit on my Malacca experience.

Didn't stay for long, 3D 2N but first day arrived at about 5+PM and third day left at 9:30 AM.

Book KKKL Express thru redbus - from Larken Sentral to Melaka Sentral and vice versa for the way back.
Didn't know had to print out boarding pass at the counter lol, lucky went abit early.

JB->Malacca leg took 3.5hrs, no toilet break.
Malacca->JB leg took 3hrs, 1 toilet break.

First day:
Went to Jonker's street night market. Wasn't impressed with the food, mostly quite bad compared to JB. Atmosphere was ok though

Second day:
Ban Hong Xiang Tea House for dim sum breakfast. Pretty average, some hits some misses. The orh ni and the fried stuff are generally good, the rest not so much. Had better in JB.

Walked along Malacca after that. Scenary was quite nice.

Went to the Shore Oceanium. Quite bad and not worth the money.

Then went to Huskitory - best part of the journey and saved the whole trip IMO. The huskies are pretty well trained and interacts with the visitors a lot (incentivized by snacks haha).

Dinner at Nancy's Kitchen - average nonya fare, had better in JB.

Third day:
Hatten hotel buffet breakfast. Not good haha but I don't expect much from hotel breakfast mostly.

All in all, maybe can visit one more time for other things to explore, but feels like not much and food wise lose to JB by quite a mile. I didn't get to go to Hoe Kee Chicken Rice, not sure if it was closed at night or just closed permanently, or even moved somewhere else.

Anyone has any recommendations apart from the above that I went to?

Red square and Saint Paul's Church.
For food, I mainly eat at the right side of hatten hotel, there are many row of shop and resturants.

You mean street food or store food?
But then again nothing special there, hard rock cafe is the best.

hatten sucks, everything, only good thing is its smack dab in the middle of town, next to the shopping centres.

Hatten:
Check in long queues, take hours.
Lifts take forever.
Amenities in the room always missing.
Ask house keeping to top up things takes at least half a day, sometimes need to wait the next day.
In house dining hall menu never changes, breakfast lunch dinner all the same.
In house seating is like coffee shop, insufficient to cater to the huge number of rooms.
By now things in the hotel should be breaking down since maintenance is minimal.
Check out long queues, takes hours.

..., had better in JB.

Between breakfast at DoubleTree by Hilton, I definitely prefer Melaka's. JB's not bad too, but I don't mind waking up early to enjoy the one in Melaka.

Please tell us, what peranakan restaurant you went to that is better than Nancy's kitchen. What did you eat at Nancy's kitchen also.

Is Hilton DT better or The Pines better? Hatten is fully booked for room to accommodate 3 pax. I prefer not to stay in those boutique hotels.

Is walking from Holiday Inn Hotel to jonker both ways a smooth and easy 20 mins walk? Or better to get grab? Can't really visualise when I try looking at Google map.

Quite easy.

Just make sure you cross the roads under the flyover, and not before the flyover. Traffic is always very bad in front of Mahkota Apartments. Last time I used that to cross over to Mahkota Parade back in 2008/9. Just walk further down the road to go below the flyover and cross over to Jalan PM. Cut through all the roads and you'll be at the roundabout in no time. Probably 15 mins or less.

While you're at it, do stop by Nadeje at Jalan PM 4 for their lovely millicrepe cakes! :o

Is the road below the flyover safe to just cross over? Wow many roads to cut over is it 😂 The cake shop can see on the way to the flyover? My first time to Malacca lah, not familiar with the place.

Fm outside Hatten i can see most of their rooms are not unblocked. I will give it a miss even though its not that old hotel like Equatorial

Very safe, from what I recall. Because the traffic volume is very low below the flyover.

The cake shop cannot be seen until you walk to it. It's located along the shophouses along Jalan PM 4.

You can open up Google map to walk and explore. Can see many things appear.

That was how I explored KL Bukit Bintang area last month! :ROFLMAO:

Last time Holiday Inn was right beside the sea.

Now they rec;laimed until the whole place is landlocked. Anyway, I've not stayed there since 2009 or 2010, I think. Once I went Hatten, I never booked Holiday Inn again. Hatten is really too convenient to go Pahlawan and Makhota.

Many thanks for the quick reply. Hatten already fully booked so I am now looking for hotels near to jonker. You have any recommendations?

I'd have recommended Casa del Rio but since you prefer not to stay boutique hotels...

Have not stayed at The Pines, but a couple of times in DoubleTree by Hilton. Have to Grab to Jonker, but quite straightforward so not too bad.

I actually either Grab or took the shuttle (Hatten's, actually, from the ElementX Mall) to Hatten and took my time to walk through the malls to Jonker. After pasar malam, I walked to outside Casa del Rio to Grab back to DT. That shuttle bus went to Jonker too, passed the Indian temple side then later also Red Square. Not sure if it's still operating since preC19, though.

If stay Casa will then be easier, just a short stroll away...

I am actually thinking of either staying 2 days in Holiday Inn, or first day in Timez Hotel (they only have 1 night available during my 2 days stay) and last day in Casa de Rio for the convenience as I will be boarding the coach back to S'pore from Casa de Rio. Coz it's quite costly to stay 2 days in Casa if I am mostly out exploring Malacca.

Is it easy to get a grab from Casa de Rio? My friend told me she couldn't find any grab for 1.5 hours at jonker coz so many people there would also be trying to book a grab back to their own hotel.
