Actually if you stay at Hatten/Equatorial area or Jonker area you can walk to shopping and makan de. No need drive. Take it as exercise.

I always park my car at the hotel i stayed (Equatorial, Hotel Puri, Fenix Inn) and i walk to Jonker street, Palawan shopping mall and makohta parade.

Always traffic jam at melaka.

Agree... whenever we go ... we can settle most of the shopping, makan at Equatorail

Walking instead of driving will be better option provided weather is good. Especially this season, we can expect more rains.... :)

how long was your walk

If walk from equatorial to jonker street around 15-20mins walk. If you drive maybe more than that cos of traffic jam especially during the weekend and school holidays.

You got to take short cut to walk. From Equatorial you walk into the Palawman Mall then you walked straight into the mall and exit at the Guardian pharmacy from there you will see the st paul's hill then walk towards the Aldey hotel (red colour) then cross the road and cross the bridge and after the bridge is Jonker area liao.

As usual, I will recommend the following (my strong preference as well as family and friends) Since you are not driving ..LOCATION is very important ..the following hotels allow you to immerse in Nyona food, Shopping, Local chinese food, Malay food, Portugese... all within easy reach..

Hotel Equatorial Melaka from S$99:):):)

Holiday Inn Melaka from S$96

Renaissance Melaka from S$117

Hatten Hotel Melaka from S$85

Casa del Rio Melaka from S$171

First time better stay at Jonker or Melaka Raya (Palawan shopping mall) area.

If you favour makan more, stay at Jonker street with pasar malam on weekends. Puri Hotel, Baba Inn and etc. Jonker street - chicken rice balls, Dimsum, famous chendol and etc.

If you favour shopping then stay at Equatorial or Hatten. They are very near to Palawan Mall.

It doesn't matter that you stay in Jonker or Melaka Raya area cos these 2 are walkable.

If you are budget you can stay at fenix inn.

Casa De Rio is between Melaka Raya and Jonker street but quite expensive.

Does anyone know whether the recent flooding in Malacca involves the tourist areas? :)

I booked Hatten Hotel, and I'm intending to drive up to Malacca next weekend, slightly worried about the reported floods.

This would not only be my first drive to Malacca, but my first drive out of singapore in fact. Gonna rely on my TomTom to guide me. Hope everything will go well. =)

hatten entrance is quite chaotic during peak hrs, just be calm and drive steady to the carpark..
