tried to set my Tomtom to take me directly to the hotel in malaysia (stayed @ Hatten) but the address doesnt exist in tomtom database even after the latest map update. So I set the GPS to take me to christchurch in Melaka, printed googlemaps of the area so I would refer to the printed map to navigate manually from christchurch to the hotel.
I just got my driving license less than a year ago so to date, i've been driving carefully - at least until the first year mark for obvious reasons

anyway, the first thing you notice when you enter the highway is that the speed limit is 110km/h and unofficially about 130km/h or so - there ARE SPEED cams but there are signboards to advise on where the speed cams are

obviously, slow down along the bends. DURING BAD WEATHER/VISIBILITY which i experienced on the way back to sg, slow down but don't turn on high beam. There were road works in some sections when I went last week, so the 2 lanes became one lane - most cars turned on the hazard lights when the speed limit fell dramatically from 110km/h to 60km/h at those sections where the road was only 1 lane.
Please be considerate and keep in the left lane, overtake only on the right. THERE ARE ONLY TWO LANES for much of the NS highway. There are lots of "Rehad" stations or rest and service areas where you can buy stuff. Don't leave your GPS set hanging anywhere conspiciously when you leave your car.
Oh yes, please buy yourself a touch 'n' go card when travelling in malaysia - you need to pay the toll. If you dont have one now, that's okay, keep left when driving in the customs at the malaysia side. Just keep keeping left - the extreme left lane you can buy the card
oh yeah in malacca and many other rural areas, many (i mean MANY) roads are one-way

so take note when planning routes through places like Malacca.
This is a quick summary of what I learned and experienced from my one and only drive out of singapore, to melaka. I'm certainly not very experienced and many guys here can probably help you out for more technical details and/or more difficult drives
I'm kinda in a hurry now (typed this in <5 mins) so ask any questions you have here - and i'll reply if/when i can
