It seems Hatten hotel is the only hotel that is located near the shopping. Wanted to stay there but strangely it sold out every weekend

So we plan to stay in novotel. Is it far from shopping centers? If yes, is there any hotel to recommend?

About bus ride, which do EDMWers recommend? I searched and the big players seem to be StarMart and Konsortium. There is a Nam ho bus that is significantly cheaper too. Which do you recommend if safety is a main issue (like less speeding)

Thanks.

There is Equatorial as well. Hatten is overhyped and high turnover..they could not maintain their service standard due to this..i felt the quality of stay dropped since the da they opened.

For location wise I have since stayed at Casa De Rio, considering having to bring young children around...for the space and comfort...

Just plan a last min trip to port dickson and Malacca on 30 Dec to 1 Jan. One nite each. But after reading from page 1 to 127, found tat the traffic is very bad in Malacca during weekend, n tat day in Malacca is on 31 Dec, since I haven't book hotel for Malacca, should I skip it? My family first trip to port dickson and Malacca.

Traffic is bad at Ayer Keroh area towards NSH. If u have a GPS or know the way..u can take the less taken route tho...

will never go Malacca again.

Food wise not as nice as Singapore. When the bus stopped at Boon Lay market and when I ate the Boon Lay Nasi Lemak, I realised Singapore food is a lot nicer. Ate Equatorial seafood night and it was real bad. prawn head was black and seafood are real unfresh. I don't understand why hotel food can be this bad.

Only attraction seems to be the red church which is just a building painted red. Shopping center is old but big but nothing much to sell.

Jonker street is dirty and does not sell anything interesting. It just like an extended version of Singapore pasar malam

Stayed at Equatorial premier and cleaner did not do job properly

Took Konsortium back. 31 seaters with super crammed seats and bad air flow. Travel time about 5 hrs and super not worth it. I would think KL would be much better. Or vietnam or bkk or taiwan which is also 5 hr

Then Malacca is not a place for u...

The main attraction is not shopping in Malacca..we appreciate the Portugese settlement and historical sites, as well as the pasar malam type of food and culture there.

We travel to experience culture in other coutnries, not to compare standards with our own...

Any places that the children might like?

Jonker will have lots of old school toys for them to see. Dataran Palawan and Hatten will have Toy R Us and some old school battery-run cars for them to play.

I read up there is this new place called The Shore where there is a sky tower, aquarium, and some shopping..abt 5-10mins drive from jonker... Anybody went there before? Review?

There is nothing interesting at the shore except expensive clothing, etc...
their aquarium scale is small, compared to SEA aquarium at Sentosa

You can see The Shore from the upper floor corridors of Casa del Rio, facing the direction of Jonker, outside those rooms with balconies facing the Lago. One of which is the corridor leading to the gym and swimming pool.

Shopping-wise, there's a Tangs department store there... other than that, the place on the whole looked like it didn't/hasn't picked up the shopping crowd, maybe due to its location. There's an aquarium there, not really big but kids might find it interesting. Not sure about sky tower, but someone here did share pics of views from the connecting residential block's high floor somewhere. Oh, a fairly big Mr DIY there too.

I used to walk there from Casa del Rio, either along the river then cross over somewhere near the kampung, or along the road then shophouses from next to the Dutch Square. Not sure how's driving going to be like, since there're quite a few one-way streets in between these 2 sites. Friends stayed at the hotel there said they'd to pay RM20 for a cab to Jonker, just FYI.

But those people with old people and children how? :o You mean parking there very hassle and needs money? :o

Unless the hotel you stay has free parking, otherwise most of the public parking places have a fee.

Friend's family drove there but ended up calling 2 cabs just to travel to Jonker pasar malam and back, coz driving/parking wasn't easy there.

Depends on where you stay and hang out, I guess.

I first took cab, then switched to Grab Taxi from last year. Yet to use Grab Car in Melaka, but someone here who has, shared positive experience.

I've been using Grab Car in JB and everything is so far, so good.
