I was already looking forward to lepak at the Geographer's this weekend. Many happy memories of the place. So now it is made to close at 10pm. What a shock! No doubt the local residents now have the upper hand.
If I am not wrong, 2nd floor is currently closed. It is really a shadow of its busy past. The pasar malam dies around 10pm..

Indeed, the second floor is closed. Tables and chairs are placed well within the premises and patrons have to stay within a marked boundary. The music is mostly Chinese.

Those who're in Melaka these past months, which hotel did you choose?

We used to stay at Casa del Rio and Double Tree @hilton but thinking of making a quick 2-night trip in a lower-cost hotel around Jonker. Looking at Heeren by the River or maybe even Quayside.

Was reading some reviews and people were complaining about the room conditions after the 2-year closure with the likes of Hatten and a couple around there...

I stayed at Hatten a few weeks ago. The room was decent and clean. I think the room that I got was refurbished. Was also concerned about the mixed reviews, maybe because some got the older rooms and others got the newer rooms.

My main consideration was location (near malls and Jonker) cos got elderly and carpark.

Yes, the location is a big attraction.

Thanks for sharing. :)

I stayed at the Imperial Heritage Hotel for a night last weekend. It is opposite the Equatorial, if you do not mind it being on the far side of Dataran Pahlawan. $62 on a last-minute deal for a Sunday night. Clean and large room. Dedicated multi-storey parking. Kids play facilities. Proximity to the museums, A Farmosa and St Paul's (probably not important to an old-hand like you). Close to the many food options at Melaka Raya. Also the coach terminal at Hatten Square. Nothing to complain about, unless you want a swimming pool.

Thanks! :)

I was actually looking at the Imperial Heritage as it's fairly new compared to the Hatten, but saw those bad reviews and was concerned since it's "new" in the sense that I practically saw the building of this hotel while passing through the past years, and it's staring over whenever I looked from my then-Double Tree room towards that direction. I guess all these bad reviews are mainly due to the condition after the 2-year closure, on top of the possibility of being short of staff since their reopening. Location-wise is not a problem too, as I walked that far when staying at Casa del Rio and even walked pass from Double Tree to the Hatten.

Oh yes, I've not had the opportunity to look at the food options at Melaka Raya as well. Thanks for the reminder. 😅

Now I've both options that I was looking at. (y)

I have not seen any bad reviews of the Imperial Heritage. Recent reviews are positive on Agoda.
Have not followed up on what happened to the Equatorial. Saw that it was closed for some time. Do you know what happened to it?

I was checking reviews on Trip Adivsor... :o

Equatorial closed for extensive makeover back in mid-2019, I was there just before that since it's the last pick-up point for Luxury Coach then and that's when I learned it's closing. I guess the pandemic delayed the whole process, so not sure when they'll open again.

Hatten location very good, but a distant away jonker and attractions. Hatten area is full of food choice and shopping mall.

Yeah depends on what your plans are.
When I have elderly, they want to shop and cannot take the heat, I booked Hatten easier. They tired they cross the road go up and rest. Jonker we went after breakfast for the day shops, not so hot and day just started, elderly got energy to walk. Not far, about 10-15 mins stroll from Hatten Hotel to San Shu Gong Jonker. It is a nice walk with proper roads/pavements.
Jonker night market we went after dinner then walk back to hotel.

Pre-COVID I book Novotel. Still walkable to Jonker but further than Hatten. My folks always walk till the end of Jonker then want to take Grab back to hotel. This time stay Hatten, they said can walk back.

If most of your activities are around Jonker area, booking a nice boutique hotel at Jonker sounds good too.

First trip was 707 there and KKKL back, all good. Thereafter until pre-Covid, Luxury Coach all the way.

Anyone stayed at novotel or doubletree or holiday Inn of late.

How the cleanliness n condition?
Double-Tree, twice pre-Covid. Before that Casa del Rio for a few years. Double Tree was good back then, don't know about now. Breakfast at both hotels were awesome.

I thought double tree toh liao? I got package they say cannot honor anymore.
They told you cannot honor because toh?
