You won’t feel bored? Feel tempted to try the christee suites hotel but booking on agoda is non refundable for it. May book at the last min if still available.
I love to explore on foot, so that works as it'll take hours going from one place to another while visiting any malls/shops and whatnots along the way. If have more time to spare, can always Grab somewhere.

It's a place which is very walkable, and I feel more comfortable there walking all day long.

For Melaka, it's always "never enough time" for me.

Like you, I also love to explore by walking. Since you also like to explore via walking, which hotel would you recommend for Melaka if one loves to walk on foot?

Another thing is the time spent at customs. I plan to depart Friday morning and return Sunday afternoon.......would the jam be very bad.......

I'd a very good time exploring Melaka on foot during those years when I stayed at Casa del Rio. I love the location as it allowed me to drop off my shopping bags and also take a short break before heading to the next direction.

Near to Jonker to grab a bite especially during the weekends, and also not far from Dataran Pahlawan for air-conditioned shopping and makan.

Alas, it became not so feasible when I started staying for longer periods, so moved to Double Tree by Hilton.

I think a regular Friday shouldn't be too bad, though I always try to leave by Thursday. Sunday coming back, you'll have everybody returning from other states as well. I used to stay until Monday or Tuesday.

From what I gather online, Sunday before 12pm is fine.

The traffic slowly builds up after that.

By 3-4pm, will be quite bad liao. And this is the usually the timing people whom had left other states and reaches the custom.

PS. I'm referring to driving.

Well, in the city area (Mahkota Parade and Pahlawan) shopping malls, there will be some (limited) activities for kids.

In Mahkota Parade, there is an indoor playground for young kids.
At Dataran Pahlawan, there are many claw machines placed in shop spaces.
There is an arcade each in both malls, cinema as well.
If your kids are interested in bowling, there is a bowling alley in Mahkota.

If your kids are into dogs, there is The Huskitory further away from the city centre. Can take Grab there. Downstairs are Huskies and upstairs are Shiba and Akibas.

For me, my kids are more interested in dogs and swimming, so have to look for better hotels with nicer (and cleaner) swimming pools.

You can bring them on the Melaka River Cruise to while away some of the time. If you drive, there is the Malacca Zoo. It is cheap and kids can feed the animals, like the elephants, up close.

Agree to that. I think night cruise is pretty decent. I went without any expectation and was pleasantly surprised.

Will you be driving or taking bus to Malacca?

One thing to note about Friday is .... prayer time very hard to get grab services. I find the 1pm to 2pm timing very bad for grab. If your bus don't drop you at hotel door step, you may have to wait a bit if you intend to take grab.

Nowadays Grab have to wait very long. About 10-20 mins, may even more than 20 mins.
Grab driver take passenger, then start taking another trip order.
JB not so bad, wait within 10 mins, unless peak period.

Not sure about Melaka, but in JB I'm beginning to see groups of foreign workers taking Grab. Probably company paid.

Demand seems higher these days.

Also,
for Melaka, assume most are using cash instead of credit card ( which i normally use in JB ) just thinking if need to change more cash this time...

I use Youtrip for any payment more than RM100. Spare cash in case card not accepted or decline.

Alternative is to use TnG ewallet. Scan the QR code, which many kopitiams and the Jonker stalls accept. Yes still keep some cash with you.

With credit/debit cards and TnG eWallet, the need for cash is very minimal these days.
