for one day trip malacca, morning go evening come back...any good place to sight see?
If still new to Malacca, and you are not on tight budget and not short of time, suggest you take a 2 day trip NOT over the weekend. You will save a lot of time from queing at customs/immigration on weekdays. The go-to place for new visitors is Jonker.

Personally to me, all the hype about the weekend Jonker night market is nothing much. You can get just about the same stuff during the "day time market" except perhaps without the steet stalls and live street performances but under the scorching day time heat. Bring umbrella. Stay at a hotel within walking distance from Jonker. From there, you should be able to do the historic sight seeing on foot from there. Food-wise, you should get to experience most of the Malacca local food at Jonker there though at tourist price; or you can venture on foot to other local eateries just outside Jonker area. Since you are renting car and if in adventurous mood, can drive around to hunt down the more interesting eatery places.

BTW, there are also tour bus coaches from Singapore (at convenient pickup points) that drops you off at hotels in Malacca. You can consider that if you are not going to drive around in Malacca.

I bought the tickets onsite. It can get very popular on weekends.
There are some online sites like trip.com, etc., which one would I purchase from without much hassle?

Also it seems like the starting point is at Jetti Taman Rempah, which is far away from the Jonker area. I would like to board the cruise at Jetti Quayside and wonder if it's possible?

Can only start at Jetti Taman Rempah or Jetti Muara, can alight any jetty.
Can buy ticket on the spot or their website.

Have you gone on their river cruise?

I've been walking up and down the river until no desire to ride. :s34:

Maybe I should, one fine day.

I guess trip.com should be better if you are getting some other perks as its member. Prices are comparable to the official ticket website. You will still need to confirm your boarding time at the jetty. According to the official ticket website, boarding is permitted at both Taman Rempah and Jetti Quayside (aka Muara Sungai).
I drove, so Taman Rempah was a better choice.

@Habrosus I walked upriver and downriver many times during a lifetime of visits to Malacca, but taking the river cruise for the first time was still a highlight for me last year.

Thanks for the replies, given a choice I would prefer boarding the cruise at Jetti Quayside.

But how the ride along the river works? As in eg: can I board the ferry at Jetti Quayside and go one round and pass by Jetti Taman Rempah and alight when back at Jetti Quayside?

Yes, basically you board and alight at the same jetty. Nobody will stop you from alighting at the other jetty, but I don't think you can board there. You ought to look up their website. https://ticket.melakarivercruise.my/

I'd have chosen that, unless a car is parked on the other side.
I don't drive, and likely to stay around the Jonker area and move around using Grab, so I thought to/fro Jetti Quayside would be the better option for me

Stay in Jonker will be nightmare, peak hour and weekend most grabs will be stuck there. Traffic slow. I stay outside normally grab still need to wait about 6 mins.

I stayed at Casa del Rio Hotel for a good few years preC19, a rather short walk from Jonker. Grab from the hotel lobby was easy, as a couple of rides even drove into the driveway before I could put away my phone after booking.

The hotel is near, yet out of the major traffic's way. When I moved to DoubleTree @ Hilton and visited Jonker, I even walked to CdR to Grab.

The restaurant's outdoor seating is just across the river from Quayside, so breakfast time we could view the weekend's hassle and hassle whenever tour coaches dropped their tourists off. Yup, view of the river rides passing by as well.

Oh, once I'd to stay a night at a hotel around Jonker itself coz CdR was fully booked in the midst of my almost week-long stay. Same, I used CdR for my rides. :s13:

Have even contemplated on staying at Quayside Hotel, but I'd definitely stay away from weekend stays there. Unless one enjoys the noises from the loud tourists during the day and people who never sleeps, at night.
