fear mongering. the reason why people exaggerate the effect is because they have certain agenda be it to sell their anti radiation cream or what so.

Bring a geiger counter and go and measure. It is no different as what we have in SG. You will score much more radiation count on the air flight then in Tokyo itself.

I agree to d/c from fb and those media if u wanted to hv real holiday feel. But cannot off hp lah, wat if your family or someone got emergency thing to contact u? Not advisable to do that.

tell ur family members to only call or sms u, instead of whatsapps.
then u can safely turn off ur whatsapp and facebook. best is dun get data plan so u wun end up checking ur photo wherever u go. u can always use wifi when u are back in hotel room.
u dun need data plan for navigation either. can just pre-download and save the maps, and use it offline. or just go old-school and use hardcopy maps like i do :o

Personally, when I was using online goggle map/GPS for direction, I got more confused than i simply ask around and with a screenshot from japan-guide or a paper map. Then a bit of landmark recognition and common sense, I still can lead my travelling group of 4 without major trouble or lost :s13:

Hi

21 Mar (Fri) is a National holiday in Japan. Do you think its possible to book Shinkansen on Fri or Sat from Tokyo to Kyoto or to Sendai using JR Pass?

1) I read from the website if the winter mths are colder, the cherry blossom will bloom later?

2) Shinjuku Gyoen and Ueno park are the most popular places to c cherry blossom, thn wat abt at nite?

3) To travel ard Tokyo area, metro train and jr are the most convenient transport? Wat pass to buy?
If I can understand Osaka/Kyoto mrt lines, I should not hv much problem with Tokyo one rite? Or Tokyo one more confusing?

4) Anyone has toyoko inn email address? I cannot find it online.

if you can handle Osaka, then you sure can handle Tokyo.

It might be possible if you take the earlier trains, the first train to kyoto start at 5 am according to hyperdia. JR Pass allows unreserved seats on the Shinkansen, if you want to reserve a seat, you need to do it at the reservation office.

Going to tokyo from 6/4 to 15/4, staying at sunroute shinjuku (promo stay 6n 25% off). Planning to spend a night at Seifuso in Matsumoto as sunroute shinjuku had no vacancy on the 12/4.

Online reviews seems quite good, plus point for me is near to shinjuku jr. To me $100/nite is quite cheap if all the charges are included.
