You can ignore this thread I just needed to say something to offload it from my mind thanks

So I have my project due today

Windows has been pestering me to either update now or wait for an hour. Although it is always less than an hour before they ask again..

I avoid windows 10 update as much as possible because of the deadly data loss during 1809

I know it was fixed and updating is good for security and blah blah blah but my project is due today and if I updated and my data is gone, what can I do in a short amount of time to get back my project?? I ain’t gonna redo everything that’s impossible

I got tired and wanted to sleep for awhile so i hibernated my laptop and went to sleep. But I was woken up by the loud sound of my laptop fan and to my horror I saw that windows was updating. When I have hibernated my laptop, plugged out Ethernet cable, off WiFi and enable airplane mode. It just powered on itself to update... like wow do you have some kind of target to meet internally to show the higher management how great the update is?? WHY THE F*** do you need to force a update this way???

Luckily there doesn’t seem to be any data loss for now but everything I opened before I hibernated is gone so I gotta slowly open back everything

Lastly, F*** YOU microsoft

You are a piece of TRASH that doesn’t deserve the profit you are making
We should seriously be moving to some other OS other than this f***ed up garbage which I don’t understand why I have to use it

The current win 10 update model is bad for home user.
IF YOU don't mind, give a try LinuxMint 19.2 Tina. Good for home user !!!

if u want to keep using Windows u have to live with it. have a contingency like continuous backups or change to another OS. I changed in 2009, never looked back.

Always backup regardless if you are a working adult or student. Even in office some staff never do backup and when something happen, panic and cry. Then some use thumb drive as a LIVE data usage which is absolutely wrong method. LIVE data should reside in your HD. Backup can be in the form of thumb drive or ext HD.

So far, 1903 is stable. 1803 come this Nov will be end of updates. If you have 1803 it will jump to 1903. Those on 1809 will update to 1903 when all the patches for 1809 are completed.

So far, all my rigs have been updated to 1903, even my recently built Ryzen rig, no problem at all. Now, whether the updates had affected performance in any way is another question, but I am not so anal as to go looking for......flaw?

Thanks, i wanted to give linux a try but was afraid of the learning curve, but now i think no choice need change liao if not keep sneak attack update

Because i can quickly return to what i was doing before i needed to power down my laptop, like how Chrome or other browsers "return from where you left off" feature but for the whole OS instead of the browser

Maybe for majority of the users it is ok.. I also abit picky and paranoid of data loss (which is irony cos i don't backup anything when i should lol)

You are waiting for a disaster to strike.

If you don't backup, your data is not important.

This is the reason why I haven't update my windows since ancient times and have stayed with windows 10 build 1511 and is using a software to disable the windows 10 update. Been running smoothly and no more annoying windows 10 update pestering me anymore. Windows update has screw my system in the past with stupid updates so decided to block all updates and no problem since.

I understand updating windows will provide security but what is the point of that when windows update can sometimes screw your system no thanks microsoft.

It just works. I find that no point updating unless you really want to use the new windows features otherwise just stay with old builds and block the updates.

My system runs smoothly and no more annoying background windows 10 process or update in the background. It feels like a new system.

Sadly have to be stuck with using windows operating systems as its the only OS that works well with all sorts of software and drivers update compatibilty and gaming support is still better then linux in this point of time. Until linux is better or can surpass windows will switch over to linux and dump windows.

Microsoft is providing windows 10 for free because windows is now a service hence all the updates now and then.

Until linux becomes better shall just stay with windows 10 and block all the windows 10 updates for now.

If you don't want to deal with annoying windows 10 updates just install a particular safe build say 1903 and just block all future updates will do. Best method I find to block windows update is to use a software. Using airplane mode, block the windows update service, group policy method, etc etc all just doesn't work and windows will just find a way to reenable windows updates again. So not recommended.

now I also worried about Windows update. There was one update which rendered my USB keyboard totally useless. BEST. couldn't log in at all. Used my other computer to ask MS help and the reply is copy and paste templated replies, pls log in and press this and that. LOL, they can't even bother to read properly.
