thanks. you seem really knowledgeable. now im pondering if i should take up their fibre home entertainment haha. $69.90 a mth for 200mbps. im currently paying almost $42 ($37+ 3mbps mio home, $4+ for top box charge)

No. Fiber bundle still need to pay $1.90 for Set-Top box rental and $4.90 once out of contract W.E.F 1 June 2013.

Comparison with other telcos, Starhub is $200 and $300 while M1 is $250 and $350 for non-iPhone and iPhone respectively when Singtel is $250 for non-3G and $350 for 3G and above phones.

Conclusion: For Android, Nokia Windows Phone and Blackberry and perhaps even feature phone, early recontract with Singtel is more expensive if you do not take the entertainment bundle plan. For iPhone, the waiver from the other 2 telcos still requires you to top up $100.

Taking an example:

M1 iPhone

If I were to upgrade to iPhone 5S 16GB now from M1 after taking up another phone last year, I still have to pay $515 (Normal new sign up price) + $100 = $615 if I had a Multi-Service Saver (MSS) plan (Similar to entertainment plan or Hub Club minus the paid TV)

2) Enjoy 15%, 20% and 25% discount for 2, 3 and 4 mobile lines. Pretty standard for MSS from M1 as well. Except that MSS does not give discount for 1X mobile line under your name.

Singtel offers 10% discount for both plain plan and fiber entertainment plan. Thus, 1X mobile line user should not get the Entertainment plan if they don't plan to renew iPhone annually or watches MioTV as a need since $20 per month is not cheap.

EDIT: Refer back to Hub Club link, it is 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% from 1 to 4 mobile lines respectively, still Hub is 5% better than Singtel not to mention Cable TV and broadband discount when Singtel don't.

3) Free TP installation. But if it is a new BTO project, or the last 5% that should be OpenNet ready by now, it is not relevant as government give everyone a first time free TP installation benefit. For me, I belonged to last 5% and thus no $235 is charged to me as I never reject OpenNet before. Only for owners and previous owner (If buy resale unit) rejects OpenNet before, yes, $235 and $481 applies.

Not sure about Starhub since their fiber is mediocre to the max as they never reference IDA Consumer Report in every show to highlight their good points, but for missed TP installation, M1's 300Mbps for $49 can do the same job unless you are own a landed unit that cost $481 instead. Landed owner who missed TP installation took up M1's 300Mbps for $49 will have to top up the difference ($481 - $235)

Conclusion:

1) Are you iPhone user who must upgrade handset annually and unwilling to pay the $100 extra despite it means of less talk time?

$100 / 12 months = $8.333333....

$8.33 = 833 cents

833 cents / 16.05 cents per minute = 51.90 mins

0.90 minutes = 0.9 * 60 secs = 54 seconds

So, to save $100, it means one can never in average exceed 51 mins and 54 seconds in talk time monthly over next 12 months.

For $59 plan and above, the difference offered by Starhub and M1 is at least 100 mins more than Singtel with per second billing instead of 6 seconds block (Starhub has first minute block though, like Singtel).

So re-phrase:

1) All these boils to more than $100 even for iPhone users, are you willing to be penny wise, pound foolish despite the need to upgrade the handset annually for latest updates?

2) Do you watch Mio TV due to certain exclusive channels such as Jia Le (Not available in Starhub Cable Vision) and such?

3) Are you willing to forego extra talk time and be ready for a bill shock of up to $188.40 for excess data when Starhub and M1's bill cap is half of what Singtel is due to excess data charges is half price of Singtel for extra SMS in $39 / $59 plan compared to M1?

PS: Starhub is rather close to Singtel's offer for less price but 3G / 4G speed sucks. So pay peanuts, get monkeys. (Similar to the Set-Top box rental where the rate is roughly proportionate to the contents offered, if you notice)

4) Are you living in a landed property who rejects to OpenNet's letter years ago or landed property owner who buy from someone that rejects to OpenNet's letter years ago and unwilling to pay $246.10 (M1's 300Mbps offer) or $481.50 (Singtel $49 200Mbps offer) upfront for TP installation despite it means a $480 installment ($20 * 24 months compared to non Mio TV bundle from Singtel or 100Mbps less from M1 where both belongs to $49 range)?


Not saying Multi Service plan no good, but Singtel's offers is easily pawned by M1, if one calculate wisely.....

After taking digital phoneline must get dect phones right? Since there's only one port on the modem. Mobile broadband must pay $10+ for activation. Free $30 voucher while stocks lasts. Plus, free anytime tv, hubstation.
So when they transition to DVB-T2 maybe they will give a DVB-T2 or DVB-C hubstation?

1) Digital Phoneline does not really means must get DECT bah? Just that no wireless home phone capability?

2) DVB-T2 only start by next month. But end of analog signal will need to wait like 2020. So it is a long journey to go. But SCV / Mio TV should be giving DVB-T2 set top box soon, if not now.

as in if one has fixed home line currently there're many port available(for wired phones) around the house but after getting the digital line, it's a must(it seems) to get dect phones as the phone line has to be connect to the modem hence not available around the house. Am I getting this right?

Just plug the port back to the wall, and it'll be distributed throughout the house as in the past.

Walau. Retention department so good ah. Show give discount for 3 months and retention department decides to give another 3 months off?

Branding cannot take it as rice to eat. What matter is quality for now.

I remember Singtel no post-contract termination charges bah since it is already factored in during Sign ups? Only M1 is known to charge it when one terminate. Perhaps M1 thinks their service is the best so no need to charge since people in right mind would not terminate it (Unless they want from smaller RSP which can be more expensive but it is a new level that Big 3 cannot give). Haha.

1) Not Cable modem lor. If Starhub, it is the Voice Enabled Cable Modem but so do Singtel.

Any digital voice service for ADSL / Cable will requires the modem aka 2Wire 2701HG-B or the Voice Enabled Cable Modem respectively to turn on before can make / receive calls

As for Fiber, it would be ONT + the given router if the ONT itself does not have a telephone jack. For ONT with telephone jack, it is possible to direct ONT and the router aka modem to most people can be turned off during offline hours.

Went to CEE yesterday after confirmed with the CSO over the phone that 43.70/mth after 3mths free sub. But what do you know, the person at Singtel booth told me you have to pay 49.90/mth (after the 3mths free) and NOT 43.70/mth for the next 21months. Totally disappointed Singtel with how their CSO handle the calls. Luckily never sign-up over the phone.

Their ads should be simple and clear. Hope this be read by their mgmt here.

Got pissed off by the way they handle the query. Went to M1 to sign up the 200M $39/mth deal. They just lose a small fly after 10yrs with Singtel. Never too loyal to them.

If you are getting TP-Link refer to OpenWRT wiki pages and get the ones with the better hardware version since you are paying for the same model.
