Every time I popped into this thread, I cannot help but feel that this has obviously become a marketing thread. Gone are the days where there are genuine recommendations. For those who are checking out here, please exercise caution and beware of recommendations by new members or members with very little posts. If one takes a closer look at the content, some are trying too hard to market the driver.

You really have to exercise precaution. It does not mean that Frank is bad but the self-praise adverts posing as past guests in this thread appear to have gotten out of hands. If only we can have a way to eliminate such posts, it would be great. Goggle is one's best friend to info at times. Try to google and see if there are comments/reviews about the drivers recommended here.

I think we would have appreciated if the drivers who are trying to market themselves come into this thread and share that they are providers of the service than to come in here and self praise. I am lazy to prove my point but sometimes the posts here made me wonder why it felt like a particular driver appears to have provide multi-days tours to different groups in the same period. :s22:

I was quoted 6500NT by a driver in 2016 that I did not used eventually. The price includes his accommodation too.

If you are a smaller group, those taxi drivers driving a Toyota Wish might be able to offer a lower quote.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick comment here, I don't frequent this forum and as someone has highlighted, my profile is new on HWZ.

However, my recommendations for Frank is genuine for the services he provided to our family. I am not paid or have any gains by going thru this hassle, except for the reason as stated in the earlier post, I'm happy to put in this little effort to create an account and share of this good service.

At the same time, I'm also aware of drivers who would even possibly create (or ask others) to create accounts (multiple accounts), to post reviews, some of which may be fake. And I'm aware of monitoring 'footprints' of new accounts with few posts, etc.

Please do your due diligence, not only Whatsapp messaging but do call and talk to the drivers for the best judgement. My wife and I did just that when deciding on a driver, and the effort really paid off going with Frank.

Have a great tour. Cheers

Hi guys, I’ve just finished a 6D5N family tour around Taiwan with Jason Wang (4 ppl including my parents who are over 60 yrs old). Just wanted to give a shout out to Jason when things are still fresh in my mind. Just like andy2326, I’m a new member, just taking the extra effort to open an account to share my experience & as a means of saying thank you to Jason.

Throughout the trip, Jason was our driver + tour guide + cameraman (taking pics is his interest). He drove with cautious and able to react quickly at serious treats on road. Felt that he is an experienced & safe driver; knowing the dangerous parts of the roads throughout the trip. On one of the windy roads from Hualien to Yilan, a truck from another direction came into our lane and was going at extreme speed. Luckily, he was able to stop immediately and let the truck pass! No kidding!

Me being me, I was skeptical at first of the place/itinerary that he recommended but after 1-2 days, we trusted him/his plan as he knew the place well and knew our preference. At times, we will cancel/make changes and he is okay with it. He knows Taiwan’s history and places of interest inside out. He can tell us stories and histories from Spain & Dutch colonial period > Ming Dynasty > Qing Dynasty > Japanese colonial period > Now. It's good to know the histories and local perception during those times. Some of the places of interest we went are not mentioned much online and are known mostly to locals but he brought us there and they are great. The restaurants that he recommended are good and not a rip off for tourists too. At times, we have tried to buy him dinner/lunch but he will kindly reject. The best thing is he is a great photographer and my brother is into photography. He did not mind spending extra time teaching my brother & also taking photos for us throughout the trip.

He is also someone who is thoughtful – did not mind if we overrun on time and did not hurry us nor charge us extra for it. He treated us like friends coming for holiday. One day my dad was extremely tired and wanted to go back hotel early but he have not had dinner. Jason took the extra mile and bought him dinner.

All in all, I would recommend Jason. He does trip around Taiwan but language might be limited to Chinese. His details are as follows:

Phone/Whatsapp/Line: +886977559385
Facebook: J&J車隊台灣包車旅遊
Website: can't post url but can google 'jjbus taiwan' with 台灣包車-jjbus/機場接送/墾丁包車旅遊

Recommendations for Driver

Hi, I'm looking for a driver to pick me up at Taichung City, and drive to Sun Moon Lake/Cingjing before dropping off at Taiwan.

Does anyone know the approximate cost? I was thinking I should just rent a car for a day if a driver is too expensive!

I have another driver to recommend for Taichung. It was introduced by a driver I engaged a few times when I visited Hualien.

His name is Ken, or you can call him 蔡先生, Mr Cai. His price is relatively low compared to other drivers I approached and he doesn't fuss if the whole trip ends later than the usual 8pm. He quoted me around 3.5k-4k NTD for most of the day trips. We usually start around 9am and end around 8 to 9.30pm.

As it was my first time in Taichung, I researched a few places of interests and just pasted it all to him including our schedule for arriving and leaving and he did most of the planning for us. We also told him to freely recommend places for us to visit if he had any in mind.

Initially we only planned to engaged a driver for only 2 days as we were gonna stay a night on CingJing, however he was so good we decided to hire him for the next day to fetch us down from CingJing, drive us around to tour some more and drop us off and Taoyuan airport. All these was only for 4k which was crazy reasonable. If we were to take a cab down from CingJing, take a train up to Taoyuan, it would already cost us about 2.5k to 3k. Plus, we don't have to drag our luggage all around.

On the first night when we went to Fengjia nightmarket, we decided to stay longer and he even went to takeaway a famous Braised pork rice and Soy Beancurd for me as I told him I wanna try when he casually mentioned it.

On top of all these, he really knows his food and history. He's knowledgeable with the history of Taiwan in general and Taichung. Never runs out of topics to converse in. We requested to try more local cuisine, those hidden gems you can't find online or travel blogs and he brought us. I would dare say, the best food I tried in Taichung during the trip, were all these hidden gems he recommended us. It's usually those old shops that operate in a run down or older area but the food is amazingly delicious and local. Most of them are something you can't find in other parts of Taiwan. There might be similar products, but the ones we tried had flavour profiles which were specific to Taichung. He also brought us to where 红衣小女孩 was filmed and told us the original story of it, as we were nearby having 芋圆.

On our second day we initially decided to end our trip at CingJing and just relax there but he spontaneously suggested to us that we should go up to 武陵. He didn't even ask for any additional fee. We ended up going up to 武陵. Even though the fog was crazy heavy he managed to drive us up and down safely. His driving skills are really good and you guys can be assured of that. We were the last group to arrive on 武陵 as it was already turning dark by then and would be too dangerous to travel on that route. However, we were glad we made that trip up. Even though the weather was not on our side, but it was still very enjoyable. We ended our trip at 7.30pm and he still had to drive all the way down and up again early the next morning to pick us up.

Overall, I would say he's one of the best drivers I've engaged in Taiwan as he's more like a friend than tour guide. It was like adding a fourth person to our group. He's knowledgeable, friendly, easy-going, prices are very reasonable and for female groups you can feel safe as he used to be ex special forces.

You can contact him at:
Ken, 蔡先生
Wechat: e651114e
Whatsapp: +886 938625580

You can tell him 新加坡钢琴老师介绍 or piano teacher intro.

I strongly recommend him. Btw, if you plan to travel from Taichung to Hualien or vice versa, you can let him know and he can get his cousin to do the Hualien side if you need a driver there as well. Usually what they do is drop off at CingJing and the other will pick up the next day for the next part of your journey. They are both excellent drivers and very friendly.

His cousin is 蔡明志
Wechat: a0928085777a
Specialises in Hualien.

Driver for Taiwan Trip - May 2018

We were glad that we accepted the recommendation by my sister-in-law to engage Cola for our 5D4N Taiwan trip in May 2018 as the review of his services were good.

Indeed, his service was good. We are very pleased to have engaged his service because we have 3 elderly in their 70s and 80s as they have difficulty in walking long distance, especially the patient and care he showed towards them. He is also attentive and thoughtful in making travel arrangement.

He is not just the driver, he is the tour guide and also a skilful photographer who captured the beautiful and memorable moments during our trip. With that, he made wonderful video.

He always reaches early, never late to pick us and flexible in making arrangement when time permits and do not restrict how long we spend in the destination because he believes we are there to rest and relax, not to race with time.

He also provides round trip within Taiwan. You may provide him the places of interest you must visit. He is able to advise is it possible as travelling distance and road traffic do play an important part from one place to another if is too far apart. And if time permits, you may request him to recommend other places of interest which is nearby the destination.

He is friendly, reliable and committed in providing great services.

You may contact him via watsapps or visit his FB
Name: Mr Cola (Chen Weihao)

He will try to respond your message whenever he is available because he may be on the move as we noticed he attended calls/messages after he has attended to us.

You will not regret after engaged his services. :)

Thank you.

This review is so familiar. Stop self-advertising. Using multiple accounts to self-praise doesn't mean it is not self-advertising.

Too many self-advertising posts along with fake accounts asking for recommendations in this thread now. Have to avoid those drivers for sure. Waste of time to even ask a quotation from them. Thanks to them, this thread is no longer the way it should be.

If you go back to the beginning of this thread, you are more likely to find better and more reliable drivers.

For Hualien, if you only going to taroko gorge only. There are many cabs waiting at Hualien train station, can ask them for price.

For Taichung, can book cab thru hotel or online(if you have). I day is 3500 ntd.

For Cingjing, you don't need to book driver. This place is very accessible by walking hehe. Just get a minsu that provide transport to attractions and for some include return. From Green Green glassland to sky walk to carton king and swiss garden.
