every time i go back to Taiwan i look for the same driver.
so far he is well versed in the roads of Taiwan, and he would actually recommend street foods that u should try rather than those are aired on TV.

for touring , timing flexibility is there due to time constrain.

can contact him for more details

Below is his contact details:

Name: Xiao Lee aka 阿豹
Tel: +886914255626
Line ID: @豹T6小李0914255626

Hi everyone,

We stumbled upon this thread while researching for our Taipei trip. Now that we're almost done, we want to give back.

We highly recommend our guide - Mr Pan (Google 潘品中) - because we had a fantastic time with him. He is a world class tour guide, a veritable fountain of knowledge, and an all around awesome and interesting person to converse with. Highly recommend him for those who want an authentic, local experience.

On our last day, he found time to and insisted on sending us to the airport, even though his mother was recuperating from an operation. He continued to give us a highly professional tour even on route to the airport. We greatly appreciated it.

This was our itinerary (recommended by Mr Pan - he initiated a WhatsApp call beforehand to understand our preferences.)

南雅奇石>金瓜石(陰陽海/黃金瀑布)九份老街>十分瀑布>十分天燈>Delicious Hakka restaurant that Mr Pan recommended on the day itself.

To give a rough idea of how long this will take, the tour started at 0900h (Mr Pan arrived at 0845h) and ended at approximately 1800h/1830h, as my parents were very tired. Note that if you bring the elderly to climb the waterfall, the tour may take longer.

To give an idea of Mr Pan's professionalism, the tour immediately commenced once he picked us up. It is a full on sharing on the history and culture of the locale you live in, linking the buildings around you, the social fabric of the place, the history of the buildings, the significance of the streets.. It's almost like a university lesson, except a much more interesting one:) You will not be bored, he is a great storyteller.

Mr Pan charged us NTD4000 for the trip. He is responsible, flexible with timing and has integrity. We tried to tip*him on both days in appreciation of a wonderful experience, but they were declined both times.

He is always early, makes sure to drop you off & pick you up where it's most convenient for you (read: least hot, least walking time, even if it means he has to drive up and down the mountain), very thoughtful (air-con is always left running even when you are not in the car) and brings you to off the beaten track places that only locals will know. He also takes fantastic pictures using his iPhone, which he will thoughtfully send you over WeChat so the pictures are not compressed. He has mad driving skills (just look at him park! But he is a safe and gracious driver dont worry) He is also very good with the elderly (he noticed that my parents were visibly tired and found a cafe for them to rest while he brought us out for a rough trek to the waterfall). He is Mandarin speaking, but has a fleet of guides/drivers trained by him, some of whom also speak English. He can also arrange for tours outside Taipei, just message him before you book your flight so he can advise you on itinerary and accommodation.

I find that Mr Pan is someone with a deep love for his country and who wants to show visitors the best of what Taiwan can offer.

He used to work in a research and publishing house and also managed factories in China. He has a rich and multifaceted knowledge of Taiwan's history and culture. This really shines through when he drives you through the streets en route to the attractions, or also in my case, on the way to the airport. He freely shared his knowledge on natural history, geography, photography, physics, chemistry, Chinese history, culture, politics and he knows the streets of Taipei intimately. He can tell you the significance behind each building- that beautiful hotel built by Soong Mayling, the cultural significance of the symbols on the Taipei 101 building, the fruits & flowers in season... As part of passing on his legacy, he also trains students to bring people on tour, which I find admirable.

He has an impish sense of humour, very energetic and is very versatile. He can climb steps two at a time, while narrating the history of the place and brisk walk up and down hills and ledges to conduct photoshoots (and even lie down on the ground to get the best shots of you). Not sure how he does it day after day.... Got to admire his work ethic.

I really enjoyed this trip with Mr Pan. He was like a teacher, a friend and a real gem to meet and talk with. If I came back to Taipei, I would definitely want to engage him again.

P.S: We are speaking as appreciative customers:)

Hi guys,

Just got back from a 10 day Taiwan trip which we booked a 2 day car hire for 4 people. I managed to get Ms Zuo as our driver through word of mouth(booked over 3 months before as heard that she is always overbooked). She had over 30 years of experience in the tourism industry and mainly serve the taichung-cingjing-hualian area(She have a list of drivers under her and is able to contact someone that fit your needs.)

Our iternery for the 2 days
Day 1: Taichung-Sun Moon Lake-Cinjing
Day 2: Cinjing-Taroko National Park-Hualian
However, due to the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck hualian, we were unable to make the journey.
She then recommends us to either go over to Yilan or back to Taichung(we only spent a night at Taichung hence did not fully experience the city). In the end we choose to return to Taichung where we will spend a full day in Taichung on our own without her. She took the initiative to plan out a day trip in Taichung catered to us which we can follow on our own without her car. For the rest of our trip, we can just drop her a text and she will gladly answer our questions about Taiwan and provide valuable help.

A downside is that her English is limited and I had to communicate using traditional chinese with her.

She is rather unwilling to publicly post her number out, so if you are interested, you can email me your contact details and travel itinerary at deeninfosg@gmail.com and I can pass them over to her.

p.s. I am just doing this to show my gratitude for Ms Zuo for her care for us in Taiwan

With regards to you one day trip to Yilan and the other places, it is possible to fit it in a one day tour.

please feel free to contact me at deeninfosg@gmail.com for more information and driver details and contacts

With regards to your second question on the cost from Taipei to Taoyuan airport. You can book a taxi via phone and it charges a flat fee of 1000 TWD from anywhere in Taipei. You can also choose to take the Airport MRT that cost 160 TWD which can be paid by the EasyCard or Cash at the counter.

Hi everyone, promised to write a review for my driver 阿辉 who was my driver for 5 out of my 8 days in Taiwan. Ah Hui was very professional and thoughtful, and he would always fork out money to buy some small snacks such as fruits or sandwiches for us along the way of our tour.

The best selling point of this driver is that he has a Canon Mark 5D and several professional lenses (idk what the exact mm of the lenses) BUT the photos are sent to me via WhatsApp daily and they are super HD and professional (given his skills & the quality of cam hes using). I'd say if you guys like someone who can take super good and nice photographs for you while you might sight see, go for him!

I promised to write him a positive review over here because I felt he was really very good - there was a day we overshot the 10h/day package but he was still fine with it. Very paiseh but we tipped him in the end hahaha.

His contacts are below:
+886 988 090 976 阿辉

He has a Facebook page as well but I do not have the link here... just search his name and I think you'll be able to find it. I was quoted 10,500NT/Day for 9 pax (2 cars).

He also provide services for airport pick up & send off which is good to have!

Ps I'm not doing a fake advertisement for him hahaha he is really THAT good (I think he is better than Eason.Cola, the driver I engaged when I went Taiwan 4 years ago).

I recently went to Taiwan and I hired a driver for taipei and just wanted to share the experience.

I found a driver via facebook, saw an advertisement.

8.5 hours at 3000ntd, every extra hour pay 300ntd
I was only assigned a driver(taxi kind not private car) as short as 12 hours before the actual day, the driver doesn't interact a lot and only gives short and simple answers when asked about recommendations, very cold throughout the entire day. When returning to hotel end of the trip there was a huge jam, exceeded about 20 minutes but he didn't ask for extra charge. And I paid 3300ntd for a 9.5 hours trip.

Overall its definitely good for people who are on a low budget and not fussy.

If anyone wants to try can pm me I will pm you their facebook page.

hi, i'm heading to taiwan in Jun and my friend recommended her previous driver who quoted me the following:

Total Pax: 5, mini-van

Day 1 - Arrive tao yuan 11am > 新竹米粉 > 中社花市 > gaomei > accoms > fengchia
Day 2 - Taichung > 日夜潭 > qingjing > accoms
Day 3 - Qingjing area > 鹿港老街 > lavender forest > accoms
Day 4 - ye liu > shifen > yinyang hai > golden waterfall > jiu fen > accoms
Day 5 - yangmingshan > 金山 > 北海岸风景区 > 淡水 > fisherman wharf > shilin (OTOT back to accoms)
+
Day 8 - Fetch to Airport (NTD 1200)

Total quote: 32500 + 1200
^ price covers the driver's accom @ qingjing (since he stated driver's accom)

He mentioned to send me a detailed itinerary so i can only provide more info later. He did not mention hours per day but i presume it should be included in the itinerary first.

My query is whether the price is reasonable? I am open to challenge his quote but only when i gather enough info to determine if it is unreasonable.

Thanks!

edit: updated the itinerary in detail

Recommending the driver that I have engaged in my recent Taiwan trip, Jeff.
Initially I contacted Mr Pan, and liaised with him on the planning of the itinerary.
It wasn't said explicitly, but it was sort of conveyed that he might not be the one driving us around.
Nearer to the trip, Mr Pan introduced Jeff as our driver.
He drives his own yellow taxi.

The airport transfer was NT1200 to our accommodation and NT1000 to the airport on the last day. But these 2 trips are not by Jeff as he wasn't free. Still, smooth rides.

We engaged Jeff for a total of 4 days.
2 days in Taipei, and 2 days in Tai Chung.
In this period of 4 days, Jeff was very helpful in making the trip the most pleasant experience for us.
Some special points to highlight:
- often prompt us if we wanted help to take group photos
- take some on his phone and sent us later on
- very knowledgeable about the local culture. We wanted to search for specific snacks that our friends/colleagues recommend, he was able to find them
- physically help to support my family when walking through some slightly rough terrain to reach the scenic spot
- usual timings are from 9am to 7pm; but he doesn't mind crossing to 8pm+ as long as he feels he can rest enough for the night to drive safe tomorrow
- able to quickly arrange the things that we wanted (e.g. last min boat ride to
guishan to see dolphins, places to pick fruits ourselves - a lot of popular places were closed because there were no fruits due to the hot weather and season, but he eventually managed to help us find one after calling a lot of places)
- able to accommodate to itinerary changes on the spot

Price wise, we thought it was okay.
NT 4000 each for the 2 days in Taipei, and NT 7000 & NT 8000 for the 3 days in Taichung.

Can contact him @ +886-956-503-000 via whatsapp or line.

Writing a review because I felt that he helped my family a lot during the trip in getting us around places, and that he made this trip an overall memorable experience.

Hi guys, I am currently planning to go to
Day 1: JiuFen+ShiFen Waterfall + ShiFen Railway to release sky lantern
Stay at Ximending
Day 2: Taroko Gorge

I estimate the price for Day 1 private hire to be around 3500 NTD

but I can't seem to find any information for Taipei <-> Taroko Gorge, any idea if such services are available and how much it will cost?

I found an option which is to take a train from Taipei to Hua Lien and hire a private hire from klook for around 2500 NTD for an entire day and will alight be back at Hua Lien station to take the train back to Taipei

Bro, it is quite a drive from Taipei to Taroko Gorge, which is why you find minimal info.

I would recommend to take train down, enjoy the view and then have the driver pick u up at Taroko Gorge Train station. But u do need to be early.

It'll be fun!

Yes it's a far drive, I am just worried about not being able to get the train tickets since many people said it's always fully book, I don't want to take the combo route :c

Have you book your ximending hotel? If you haven't book, you 1st day can end at keelung, stay a night there. Keelung to Hualien nearer than Taipei.
