The $650 quote included the new bumper?

02 local shops quoted me about
$400: respray the front top bumper + back side (some dents + paint work gone due to car accident)
$250: change out the new bottom bumper
I had a very bad crack on the left side. The 2 shops did not feel worth to mend it back, and quoted for replacement.

See pic below on my scorched bottom bumper.

This kind of bumper damage, depending on the quality of the worksmanship - I can tell you the ones coming out from the shoddy workshops won't last a year - though it still depends on how meticulous they were.

The way they do it is to use a small metal brace and plastic-weld it in place to anchor the broken off bit to the main part - then they will use fibreglass patches to stick it back on the inside, and then use layers of glue/putty to seal up the crack from behind.
From the front-side, any visible cracks will be covered up using putty and then color-matched back to the surrounding colour.

Now the problem is that this break is a long piece (too long!) and right at the very bottom of the car where vibrations is experienced the most when you are travelling on the road.

That is why the workshops here quote you for a new bumper rather than try to patch it for you, because chances are with the daily vibrations from driving, the metal braces may just fall off one-by-one (more so if the worksmanship was "cheap"). Then you will go back to them within 3 months, banging tables as an angry customer when the break appears back at exactly the same place.

Not to mention if you park head-in somewhere and you scrape your bumper - it will definitely break off at that same patched up point - so you got to be mindful of that. Since this spot has been repaired before, the next time you scrape it, you definitely won't see that broken off bit still hanging there waiting to be patched up. That piece would have dropped off on the road without you even knowing... and by the time you reach your destination you will see only one big gaping hole remaining.

Only time will tell if you got a good deal or not from this bumper repair guy.
Just telling you to truth on what goes on behind the scenes for such a repair.

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. I was aware cos he did inform to prior to doing it. Figured no harm trying.

I prefer replacing. The crack is bad.

Can't answer your question directly but just give you a data point. On 2 different occasions:
1. changed spark plugs and air filter - RM100 labour (I forgot if included a balancing and alignment as well)
2. replaced oil control valve, ocv seal and valve cover gasket - RM125 labour

honestly don't have to do this but hopefully the following is of some help to someone.

Workshop in SG told us to change 7 things and quoted about SGD$3000 in order to solve the vibration issue. Since borders are opened I thought of getting second opinion there.

we shortlisted 7 workshops.

MB Autos

We decided on MB Autos because we read a couple of glowing testimonials for them. We met the boss and he test drove the car and he said to change only one thing and disagreed with the local workshop analysis. The workshop has ordered the part and the cost is RM220. I wanted to do servicing but they charge RM700+ and they are using Mitasu Japan oil so I declined. If anyone knows any workshop in JB that does servicing for continental cars that uses Shell or Mobil and also the pricing do let me know. The local workshop in SG is charging me $120 for the usual servicing.

over the past few nights I read all 416 pages of this thread.
  1. For those driving Honda, it seems that Jet Cheng Auto is the place for you guys to go to cos they deal with everything Honda and plenty of positive reviews about them. It's a father and son team.I have yet to see any negative reviews of them.

  2. There was a chap called laksafan who made many useful contributions but he left this thread cos a couple of guys bandied together and called him out over his alleagiance to a workshop which apparently didn't do that good of a job for them. His post #333 and #371 are informative because he recommended which workshop to go for which specific problem.

  3. Someone mentioned about Rambo Car Accessories and air con so whoever is interested can consider them. I think that they are cheaper than We One Auto Auto Station.

  4. Some chaps swear by Hawk Tayar but there were others who went to Hup Heng Ang for rotation and balancing and it was cheaper than Hawk Tayar.

As for scratches, dents etc. i think just do in singapore. I wasted my time chatting with absolute bums from malaysia and singapore on carousel and facebook who quoted me ridiculous rates. Below are the cheapest and good workmanship. You send them the pics/videos of your car on where you need the touching up, fixing dents and audio message them your enquiry via whatsapp. They will give you quote and estimated downtime.

2) Uncle Loo - 96785087.

Just bring in your own oil and filter. Labour should be 30-50rm depend what car. Oil you buy from shopee or Lazada with coupon voucher and those sale period should be cheapest

There's local workshops that use Shell or Mobil engine oil - those are already priced at $160 upwards since pre-pandemic times, so post-pandemic iirc they are charging around $180+ to $200 upwards already. And add a bit more for an extra litre of engine oil for bigger cc conti cars.

Is this what you are looking for? A local workshop that uses branded engine oils? Or are you looking for both branded engine oil + $120 price point?

@myviowner, you have yet to reply to the pics egarding the paint job done which you requested for and I duly posted. I am curious to hear your comments.

Hi @kaixin18,

Thank you for your detailed write-up on your research on the different workshops in JB, is there any reason why you included E DA Auto Repair Service and would you continue to recommend them?

I have just gotten a pre-owned car and am looking to send my car to E DA Auto Repair Service for general repairs and servicing. However, from their Facebook account and general search over the Internet, I am unable to find many reviews on their skills or work quality

They have provided a quote for me already and I am still considering whether to send my car to them to work on. It would be great if you could provide some clarity on why you considered them back then, much appreciated

I got a quote of rm2700 for changing 4 rotors and brake pads (parts & labour), not indicated if including fluid change and bleed.
The rotors and pads cost 600+ from singapore stockist, so rm500 seems reasonable compared to my quote.

I can tell you RM500 for what you listed - is definitely going to include at least one of the below hack-job stuff below (which are all necessary in a brake job as you listed out):
- Not cleaning off the wheel hub (of dirt/rust) before mounting the rotors
- Not using anti-seize on the wheel hub before mounting the rotors
- Not using anti-seize on the brake pad shims before mounting the brake pads
- Not cleaning off the dirt and rust on the brake calipers before mounting the new brake pads
