hi all, am currently on the lookout for a pair of dress shoes, needing some input...i've ready through some pages of this thread, plenty of brands brought up but still undecided

my requirements as follow
- budget $200 or less
- will be wearing this 4 days/week
- i'm flat footed, so pronation will wear off the outside of the heel relatively quickly (was using borse mogan but only able to last me a year plus)
- should i consider adding another layer at the bottom to enhance the durability? it'll add some cost but not sure if it's cost-effective?

I think if you wear the same shoes 4 times a week, the likelihood that it will last more than 1 year is low. So your 1+ year is not bad.

Also adding a topy or vibram layer will definitely protect the soles and give you more mileage.

Using a shoe horn when wearing your shoes will help to maintain the shoe/leather better as you slip in / out of the shoes. Using a shoe tree in the shoe when you are not wearing will also help to absorb moisture and maintain the shoes' shape.

Since you are flat footed, i would suggest to go with whatever shoes you are most comfortable with. Or to add an insole to provide some cushion. Sorry I am not sure what to recommend for you.

If u wear the sole out fast, add a vibram sole and buy those plastic heal tab.
Insole u have to get those 3/4 kind or it will be tight.
If u don't mind factory seconds or the troublesome ordering process can get from Allen Edmond.

i've thought of doing online purchase too, but my previous attempt with Amazon was an absolute failure, the sizing was totally way-off so I ended up selling off the shoes (rather than ship back at my own cost to get a return).

Need some help. My rather new pair of Rad Russell/Simon Carter has developed some minor spots on the leather on the front. Any idea how to remove? Tried to use Reno-Mat but still not working.

At the rad russel range the leather quality probably allows for vigorous waxing to cover up the spots. Get wax polish of the same colour and brush shine.

Seems that my photo isn't too clear so here is a better one taken under the daylight.

I have tried to wax over it over and over again but the patches are still there.

Also, it seems that after i compare it to my original Rad, this side of the shoe that was cleaned with Saphir Reno-Mat, conditioned with Saphir Renovateur and subsequent Saphir Pate De Luxe wax has larger pores

Its for stripping layers of old wax. Yes LAYERS. Think of army boots after you parade shine, with thick caked layers of wax. Not to mention extra conditioning after Renomat application because it really dries out leather.

Those spots are there because you have stripped the finish and dye from the base leather. Rad russell dosnt use good calf leather anyway so dye saturation isnt spectacular either, hence the easy stripping.

Solution? Go get Navy shoe CREAM (not wax, Saphir cream penetrates best imo) and apply.
