Need recommendations for leather shoes.

Budget less than $150.

Thanks.

I tend to go with chinese-made shoes. Sure, the quality is decent for its price ($40 ish), PVC materials, but they have many styles and colors to choose from. For the time that I spend wearing them, I think they are more worth it than buying boutique leather shoes.

Just something to share, I got this pair of beauty from China for the equivalent of about 40 bucks. Cowhide leather. Love it!

you mean Robinsons carry grensons? which branch?

No, I meant trying for a size that fits you, after that order online. Although it is recognized that different brands fit differently even for same sizes, it should be mostly similar.

I've gotten Alfred Sargent, Trickers, Barkers, Jeffrey West and Loakes online based on my size, and they all fit.

So try your size here and shop online where options are more and it's likely to cost you less.

:s13: same as my J&M shoes that i bought last saturday.

The sales guy mentioned something about looking for a cobbler to resole if it wears off.

Anyone have any idea where to resole back with this kind of leather sole?

I had 3 pairs of goodyear welted shoes, 2 are from Loake. Before I wear them, I will send them to the cobbler to fix on add on rubber soles to the shoes so as to protect the stitching on the shoes. With proper protection, the shoes can last 2 or 3 years. Without those rubber soles, the stitching can be worn out easily... I never wear the same pair of shoes on consecutive days. While I do not have shoe trees, I stuff newspapers inside the shoes to retain the shape.

Theres a shop at the basement of HongLeong, they can fix the rubber soles.
Loake rocks!

yup i know you can fix rubber soles, but loake website doesn't recommend it :o

Can I add a rubber sole to my leather shoes?

Although LIGHTWEIGHT stick-on-soles can be added to Goodyear welted shoes without detriment, (NEVER to either moccasins or cements), we cannot recommend doing so; because the balance of the shoes can be affected and lead to premature failure. We cannot accept responsibility for premature wear if modifications have been made to our product.

I dont agree on this part although they are the experts, I had added soles to my Goodyear welted shoes since 2009... and I feel comfy wearing them that way
cheers

I think you can Topy them. Will help preserve the leather sole. If it helps, Dainite isn't that much more durable. More hardwearing than leather, but not by that much more.

Are yours GY welted? If yes, can try Ed Et Al Singapore.

Do note that you are likely to have to re-last your shoe and since any cobbler is not likely to have the original last that the manufacturer makes the shoe in, the best you can get is something they provide as close to the actual thing.

It's like this bro...this is what leather sole is meant to be. After a while, all the smooth surface will be "rough". By then, the shoe is no longer slippery during wet weather. Your 1880 is GY welt, so it is designed to resole when completly worn off. The only challenge is to find a good clobber in SG to do that.

I'm also wearing 2 pairs of 1880. No way I'm going back to normal rubber soles.

After all thats been said, would it advisable to pay more for a shoe with leather sole or less for a rubber soled shoe?
