to get to nami island, see this site: http://www.namisum.com/CheckENG/CheckENG1.asp think the view is nicer from may onwards. not sure.

for those going to Nami island by themselves...

to add on to what mamoo82 have posted.. you can try taking bus from other inter-city bus terminal.. as long as it goes to Gapyeong Bus Terminal.. don't have to travel all the way to dong seoul bus terminal to take the bus..

then from Gapyeong Bus Terminal, you can also take the normal bus to Nami Island ferry wharf.. it's only 1000won per person..

Nami Island is best to go in the Autumn, IMHO.. as the trees will be multi colours...

Why not free & easy in Korea?

I realised that few Singaporeans are keen to travel independently in Korea! Why is that so?

I plan to arrange my own trip to Korea. Apart from the language barrier, could anyone advise what the other potential problems may be?

there is no problem travelling fre and easy in korea.
but most people choose package tour in korea as it is more worth it.

example:

base on a 8d6n korea tour including jeju(internal flight included) per person price

1) airfair: $900 (estimate price including internal flight and all taxes)
2) hotel: $480 (base on average price 4-5star $160 for 6 nights/ 2 person)
3) transport: $150 (to all itineries)
4) admission: $100 ( various theme parks etc)

Total already $1630 excluding food. so most people will go for package tour which is about $1400 to $1650 with food provided too.

Hi I planning on Hong Thai "All-in" package too...they quoted me $1600 per pax by korean Air....Heard that 1st two nights at Oriental Jeju not v good...issit true? So far there is shopping at one area called Dongdaemum Wholesale Market. Is this better than other major ones such as Namdaemum and Myongdong? I'm also comparing this to CTC package by Asiana Air leh...How's korean airline?

yes, first 2 nights at Jeju Oriental hotel, that is a very nice hotel, not far opposite the hotel there is a emart selling alot of things, the emart is bigger than our giant supermart.
Oriental hotel is very near to the seaside, very cold.

Dongadaemun is like a pasar malam place, same for namdaemun.
Myeongdong is more fasionable place for shopping.

Korean airlines is not bad, no complain. good service.

I also ever compare ctc and sa tour too, in the end i choose Hong thai as it is cheapest and it is very popular. I went with hong thai also because they have a night stay at yong pyong ski resort and half day ski, some agency will not stay in ski resort, only day ski then go another place for hotel. the atmostphere is very different to stay one night in ski resort.

Ofcourse, there are cheaper package but they do not stay overnight at ski resort and their hotels so so only.

For me, i would say language barrier and hance difficulty in booking any thing be it tours etc.

If i go free and easy, it would be worth it to drive. But in korea, i guess its unadvisable to drive when you can't read the signs! Hence have to buy tickets for bus travelling from one place to another say mt sorak or ski resort. This can be costly and inconvenient.

If go free and easy and want save money best is to stay hostel or budget hotel lor...the 4/5/6 star hotel relli ex

For me, if i go free and easy will only go english speaking countries and drive.

Except Europe la..

I think it is a must to wear swim wear there when you are at the swimming area, did not see anyone wearing casual clothes at the swimming area. but if i remember correctly, there is a canteen on the second floor where it can actually view the pool area too. you may consider ask your mum to go to the canteen while you swim.

swimming cap is compulsory there, you can actually rent the swimming cap and swimming costume there too. you need to deposit a small amount of money( i think around $10-15) for a electronic key (serves as a cashcard and locker key), so if you buy something inside there(example drinks), you can use it to deduct the value from your elctronic card. when check out, return them and they will pay you the balance from your deposit.

Hi

I'm heading off to Korea this coming Friday. Kind of excited now.
Heard that the internet charges at hotels are very high, as much as SGD10 bucks.
Anyone?
