Been following this thread for a week or so as thinking of getting a Red Wing. Was thinking since for a leather shoe fitting is important is to get from shop. Perhaps 2nd pair then get online and save the $100 or so. Sounds like the right thing to do eh?

Depends on individual. If you do more research, you'll probably end up with the perfect size and save some money. What works for me is TTS. I got a TTS for my first pair, fits nicely with SAF socks. A 1 size down for my second pair which fits nicely with a thin socks, but the heels and ankle tear so easily after 1-2 months of wear. If given a choice, I'll buy a TTS and wear the SAF socks. Much more comfortable IMO. but still, boils down to individual.

So upset.

I received my 1907 from Amazon today. Box says 11D, but the boots was 10D. It also came with a lot of scuff marks. And the leather looks cracked. Is this normal for 1907? Is the label supposed to be sewn on the tongue? And the my insoles seems to be smaller than the shoe size, leaving gaps at the heel. Normal?

Can the gurus here help me check for authenticity please?

Spoke to Amazon and they reissued another order to me.

Now I need to post the boots back to them.

Grrr, can't believe Amazon tried to pass this off as new. Anyway the 2nd one is being shipped out today. Seems like they are doing express shipping for me. Will update with photos when I get it.

Also is there anything wrong with the label on the boot opening instead of the tongue? I've seen photos of other models where the label is sewn onto the tongue.

Anyway, what a traumatic experience. First time buying from Amazon. Still have 2 more pairs of footwear coming in. Fingers crossed.

Why don't use shoebuy, 6pm, zappos instead? For shoes wise, I've never favoured Amazon due to their partners' questionable authentiticity and credibility.

I chose Amazon because they offered free shipping. I did not buy from their partners. I bought directly from Amazon, and paid full retail (same price as shoe buy and most other online shops). Unless you're telling me that they take their products from their partners?

Well... you're not the first to have such experiences with Amazon in regards to shoe purchase unfortunately. I kena-ed the same thing from Amazon for another Made-in-US shoe brand as well (yup, bought it from AMAZON as well, not the affiliates).

Just send it back to them and leave them a "good" feedback for it.

Did you ask them to send you another pair?

Just got a 9011 from the shop at orchard gateway. Measured 8.5D and chose a 8.5D. The 9.0D felt a bit unnecessarily roomy. And I read it's good to get a bit fitting and let the boots stretch.

Not sure if it's been posted. The shopping centre is having 20% off vouchers limited to $200 per I/C. Wife was with me so I got $80 off. Unexpected surprise. Staff was nice to talk to.

This was the guy, Han, that measured my feet and served me just now. Nice guy. I like the setting in the shop with leathers hanging at the entrance, a few vintage pairs on display, the leather seats and the wood flooring. :)

I was at the store today too, and Han was there to assist me. His knowledge and customer service is indeed top notch rare in this industry. He was very nice offering me to try on the 9011 to see and feel it because I told him I have never worn one before due to sizing. He also gave in depth knowledge in boots and advices what to get. Han doesn't hardsell you anything, but only provide you advices he see suitable for you. 2 thumbs for him!:s12:

Any other good webshop to recommend bo?

Hey guys,

Told Amazon about the wrong sized boots on Friday, and guess what, the replacement boots came in this morning! Wow, really impressed with the speed at how they rectified the problem! I was really concerned so I told Amazon to ensure that the pair is new and direct from Red Wings before sending it out. This note came with the boots.

Also, I had some concerns with the box label, and expressed it to them. Now the label matches the ones I see online and in shops.

And this time, the boots are brand new. The laces are not done (which is true for unused boots at the shops). The soles are white and there are no scuff marks.

Amazon turned an unpleasant experience into a fairly decent one. This was my first order from Amazon (direct). I do not mind paying the full retail price in US, as long as there is free shipping as it is still cheaper than buying it locally. This is key for all my online purchases. The 1907 retails here at $458 I think. I paid $346 which is a saving of $112.

I guess here's a tip for those who want to buy from Amazon direct. Do a chat with their customer service officer after you've made your purchase but before the items are shipped out. Tell them to check to ensure that the item is new, in the correct size and sourced direct from ________, i.e Red Wings. A staff at their warehouse will then check and leave a note in your purchase.

After researching through the internet, I felt Amazon DIRECT was the safest place to make my purchase, since Revolve doesn't do 30% discounts nor ship Red Wings overseas any more. In fact, I seldom see Red Wing boots on sale in any online shops except STP which are factory seconds. Even Nordstrom and shoebuy prices are the same as Amazon direct. And most if not all do not provide free shipping directly to you. So let's say they do have a slight discount, you will still need to send the boots to either comgateway or vpost, and pay for shipping, which might turn out to be the same price or slightly cheaper. I didn't want any middle man, so if anything screws up, I can go straight back to Amazon. And look at how they rectified the problem! Try doing that with shoebuy or other online shops. I've read horror stories, just google.

All I have to do now is send the first pair back to them. And they will refund the shipping cost for that back to me.

On a side note, I'll share with you guys how I got a 25% discount on revolve. It isn't 30% but it's close. I saw a Jansport backpack that I really wanted and it was on discount but like Red Wings, it was not allowed to be shipped internationally. I was stubborn and made the purchase anyway. The transaction went through, but was immediately cancelled. My card was charged, and the refund was reflected after a few days. You will then receive an email explaining to you why the transaction was cancelled. It will also say,

"As compensation for your inconvenience, you may substitute any other item on our website for the canceled item at a 25% discount (if this is the first time you have had an item unavailable for export canceled on you)."

So I guess you guys can do that, then use the 25% on your Red Wings and use comgateway to ship it to SG.

I got a pair of Nudie jeans for 99 USD from Revolve!

ONLINE SHOPPING IS FUN! ;)

Err, you might want to read the post just above yours??? I just spelt out how to get a 25% discount at Revolve.

Anyway, I just got a reply from Red Wings US. I emailed them last Friday asking if Amazon is their authorized retailer.

Just to highlight again, for those concerned of buying online, you should get from Orchard Gateway now which is having 20% off by buying the Orchard Gateway vouchers. Only limitation is that it is capped at $200 per person. So eg. for a $450 shoe you need 3 different people, and your price will be $360. When I bought they had $50 vouchers. You can measure your feet, get advice from the salesperson, try sizes up/down and ensure you get the right fit, all in their nice and cosy retro-style shop. :)
