Hey guys,
Told Amazon about the wrong sized boots on Friday, and guess what, the replacement boots came in this morning! Wow, really impressed with the speed at how they rectified the problem! I was really concerned so I told Amazon to ensure that the pair is new and direct from Red Wings before sending it out. This note came with the boots.
Also, I had some concerns with the box label, and expressed it to them. Now the label matches the ones I see online and in shops.
And this time, the boots are brand new. The laces are not done (which is true for unused boots at the shops). The soles are white and there are no scuff marks.
Amazon turned an unpleasant experience into a fairly decent one. This was my first order from Amazon (direct). I do not mind paying the full retail price in US, as long as there is free shipping as it is still cheaper than buying it locally. This is key for all my online purchases. The 1907 retails here at $458 I think. I paid $346 which is a saving of $112.
I guess here's a tip for those who want to buy from Amazon direct. Do a chat with their customer service officer after you've made your purchase but before the items are shipped out. Tell them to check to ensure that the item is new, in the correct size and sourced direct from ________, i.e Red Wings. A staff at their warehouse will then check and leave a note in your purchase.
After researching through the internet, I felt Amazon DIRECT was the safest place to make my purchase, since Revolve doesn't do 30% discounts nor ship Red Wings overseas any more. In fact, I seldom see Red Wing boots on sale in any online shops except STP which are factory seconds. Even Nordstrom and shoebuy prices are the same as Amazon direct. And most if not all do not provide free shipping directly to you. So let's say they do have a slight discount, you will still need to send the boots to either comgateway or vpost, and pay for shipping, which might turn out to be the same price or slightly cheaper. I didn't want any middle man, so if anything screws up, I can go straight back to Amazon. And look at how they rectified the problem! Try doing that with shoebuy or other online shops. I've read horror stories, just google.
All I have to do now is send the first pair back to them. And they will refund the shipping cost for that back to me.
On a side note, I'll share with you guys how I got a 25% discount on revolve. It isn't 30% but it's close. I saw a Jansport backpack that I really wanted and it was on discount but like Red Wings, it was not allowed to be shipped internationally. I was stubborn and made the purchase anyway. The transaction went through, but was immediately cancelled. My card was charged, and the refund was reflected after a few days. You will then receive an email explaining to you why the transaction was cancelled. It will also say,
"As compensation for your inconvenience, you may substitute any other item on our website for the canceled item at a 25% discount (if this is the first time you have had an item unavailable for export canceled on you)."
So I guess you guys can do that, then use the 25% on your Red Wings and use comgateway to ship it to SG.
I got a pair of Nudie jeans for 99 USD from Revolve!
ONLINE SHOPPING IS FUN!
