I have 1907 and 8196. Wearing 8.5M on 1907 and 9M on 8196. But I feel 9M should be a better fit for 1907. Hence, no difference if you want to get a moe toe or round toe.

What i want is know is can the Vibram sole last longer than the original Redwing Sole? I wear my Redwings almost daily. Only get to rest it on the weekends. So a lasting sole is definitely required.

no, the vibram white christy sole wont last long. guess it will be similar to red wing crepe sole. thorogood used to use vibram white sole for their boots until tio complaints of outer sole worn out too fast they now using their own version Max Wear outsole, it last abit longer but stil not good enogh. all these white sole are blown rubber that why they wear out faster. the pro is they are softer, lighter more flex.
if you want durabilty then go for those black color carbon rubber. they can last for years.

are you wearing the same boot sizes for all them? or the IR run even bigger longer than the moc/round toe?

Not sure about Tampines Shukey. The folks at Redwing store recommends to go Far East Shukey only.

Cheers all, went down to Red Wings SG today

Friendly fella behind the counter, quote about 230-280 without shipping for sending the Beckman back to the US. They'll redo the whole outsole and insole.

Had a great chat with him about resoling/shoes and he did mention that red wings SG is appointing a local cobbler to do such resoling soon. Apparently they're working it out in the coming months after reviewing and judging the quality of the resole work.

Otherwise, he recommend sending it to Red Wings Japan or Brass Tokyo. Says he had great personal experiences with them.

Oh and he did mention about ed et al, did encourage me to check them out.

That's expensive for sending the boots over to red wing US.

I'm going to taipei next week and I saw that one of you guys recommended this fellow:

I initially wanted to send it over by post.. but the shipping fee to and fro will cost between 60-70SGD.. the full recrafting of my beckman is about $180sgd.

I made an appointment with him and the turnaround time for my boots is 3 full days, collect it on the 4th day when I'm in taipei. it's slightly cheaper (160sgd) and faster.

he handcrafts the boots and I thought he could be a good alternative to our local choices. Let you guys know of the final product and will take some photos.

3 days is really fast, and good deal for holiday travelers going to Taiwan. I heard from a friend said doing this in Japan make take up to 2 weeks, which technically is hard for a holiday...

Yes, please do share your experience. If its good, maybe I will purposely planned a short holiday to Taiwan too.

hey guys..bought a pair of iron rangers and was thinking if i should topy the bottom with some vibram so as to protect the thread at the outer sole. Or should i just wear the whole sole out and resole it in X number of wears later.

Aren't IRs already soled with rubber (nitrile cork)?

I'm under the impression that people usually apply topy to leather soles, and rubber on rubber is not advisable.

I have a pair of boots with nitrile cork soles, some of the thread edges have worn off.

But still I don't see the need to have it protected, cos I think the thread will still outlast the nitrile cork soles.
