I have to agree with u. I did my BMT back in 2002, so I suppose we are referring the same leather boots. That pair of boots are damn hardy. Until now my 2nd pair is still mint, because the first pair it's still ok though I wore it for chiong sua and parade. It has barely any discomfort, need minimal maintenance.

Depends on which leather.. I guess yours probably 1 month with frequent wear.

My 8086 still not broken in nicely after 8 months, though I was wearing it twice a week. The leather is really hard.

I like gor tex although it's crap. Buy larger size for comfort, perfect for ict. Just needs replacement every couple of hi-keys.

Not really Red Wing, but closest thread. I have a pair of Txture boots. When I wear it, after some time, the tendon above my right ankle will hurt, at the point where the edge of the leather touches my tendon.. What is the issue?

My boots is 4 holes with 3 speed hooks. Often I do not use the last speedhook as I find it constricting on my ankle

Is it because the leather too stiff? Or I wear or tie laces wrongly? Or the top of the leather has no sponge? Note, the boot top edge is slighted. The part at the speed hook is higher than the back of the boots above the heel.

I suspect its pretty similar at my edetal boots. I have a pair of something similar from edetal, pretty to look at, but never comfortable for prolong wear to be honest. I will usually try my best to keep the laces on the feet area just nice not too tight or loose, then the speed hooks will tighten. I feel it helps to keep the ankle area secure, so not to twist ankle easily.

nice what is the damages??

$428. :p

So far 875, 8165, and now 8106. Short of a brown roundtoe then I should close shop le. haha

Too long never break-in a new pair of boots le, almost forgotten how it feels until I started wearing my 8106. I wanted to curse and swear why I am torturing myself through this process again.... Haha

never had that problem for all my boots/shoes made of horween leather or other tanneries. my guess is the in house leather that red wing uses isn't good. and it dries up very easily showing cracks on the surface. horween leather patinas much better without having to care too much

Wow, that bad? I'm actually considering buying that same pair. Been wearing Dr Martens, but the leather always cracks at the small toe area. Thus, thinking if Red Wings would be a similar pain in the ass to break in....
