How long to break in a pair of Iron Rangers?

I remembered I needed 6 months to break in my MIE doc martens, but once broken in they're comfy af.

Also any shops will repair boots here?

Time to break in will depend how often u wear also. For my 8165 because I could only wear it on Fridays office dress down and weekends, so it took me more than 6 months.

What kind of repairs are you referring to? If its re-soling, I understand that Red Wing OGW seems quite confident with shukey and the new inhouse service they have. I was roughly quoted $100+++ for resoling my 8165 to look abit like the Whites, which I am still a little uncertain if I should bite the bullet. Partly because my 8165's condition is pretty bad le, the leather is peeling off, so I am thinking if its worth to resole or just buy a new pair. Btw, its more of user (me) fault for the poor condition, because I only just brush clean and slap on mink oil nia...

Good to know a little more. Rule of thumb is do our research enough, don't be sweet talk or forced into buying something we are not comfortable. Not all sale person are patient or knowledgeable to share more details

My 8116 still hasn't broken in IMO, and I have been wearing it for 1 year, maybe around twice a week. I think it depends on the leather material.

Maybe by nature Iron Ranger are built to take the tough and rugged environment, thus longer. I wore my 8165 like 1-2 times a week for a year (abt same as u), I vividly remember it started to feel more comfortable around 9-10 months.

Yeah I need an answer for this as well. Usually I just coat it with a layer of leather oil but thats it.

Beckman oxford or Sheldon series might just make it. But also depend how anal your office dresscode is...

Does anyone know where I can get the beckman is EE width? The redwing store in orchard only carries D width shoes. They are too narrow for me!

Why Red Wing?

If what you’re looking for are boots that don’t look out of place in an office environment, there’s plenty of other brands. At around the same price point can consider English or European makers, with better finishes.

I don’t have anything against Red Wing, I own a couple of pairs. But IMO, they do not represent the best value at their price point. But if there’s a particular model that catches your fancy, by all means get one.

Your post seems to suggest that you have no inclination towards any particular model, just the brand. So would suggest that you consider other makers as well.

If you’re looking for brands that you can find locally, Loakes, Carmina, Yanko, Enzo Bonafe are a few examples.

I only have experience with the first two brands. Loakes represent good value, especially if you can get them on sale. Carmina, in term of build quality is a notch higher than Loakes & Red Wing. Also if you can get them on sale, good value.

But carmina is so much more expensive than redwing.

If u not into taking care of shoes don’t spend all the money. A cheap factory seconds Allen Edmonds will do.
