I have a pair too, wearing them during the weekdays for 5 months. I think the outsole is most likely glue'd on, but no worries, they don't feel like coming off any time soon. The heel area is wearing out faster than the rest of the outsole, but it seems they can last for another year and a half before the need for resoling.

As promised from my last post. I have just came back from Taipei. Very good service provided by Lin. He even replaced the heel leather insole for me.

Overall, I am very impressed with the quality and consistency of the stitch work and the finishing. FYI it was hand crafted GYW and not machined GYW.

In summary these are the things he changed for me:
1) Heel Sole
2) Front Sole
3) Mid-leather piece, between the heel and the front sole (additional price as mine was deteriorating badly)
4) Mid-Leather outsole - runs from the front to the back of the boots (i.e. between the soles and the boots)
5) Cork Filling

He even gave me a couple of stickers and a small keychain of Dr Sole's heel sole. Very friendly chap and nice to deal with. Highly recommended.

If you require his service and you are going to Taipei personally, please inform him 1.5-2 mths ahead of time, depending on his order lead time. Otherwise you can always send to him via air mail.

I shall show you some before photos:

He removed the sole and found out that the cork has deteriorated due to constant contact with water and salt.

That's expensive for sending the boots over to red wing US.

I'm going to taipei next week and I saw that one of you guys recommended this fellow:
http://originaldrsole.tumblr.com

I initially wanted to send it over by post.. but the shipping fee to and fro will cost between 60-70SGD.. the full recrafting of my beckman is about $180sgd.

I made an appointment with him and the turnaround time for my boots is 3 full days, collect it on the 4th day when I'm in taipei. it's slightly cheaper (160sgd) and faster.

he handcrafts the boots and I thought he could be a good alternative to our local choices. Let you guys know of the final product and will take some photos.

Soles:

Look at how thick the soles are compared to the original RW's one.. It will definitely last longer than the old sole.

Your sole didn't look so bad but insole so terrible? Water and salt? You walk on the beach with your boots or you work overseas on salted snow and ice!

  • Price?
  • How long from passing the boots to the shop and collection?
  • Can provide him designs what to resole, if I want different sole from the original?

Thank thanks :D

For the resoling at the quoted price, I would assume it would be limited to what Dr. Sole makes.
FWIW, I came across a photo of a pair of Viberg with Dr. Sole's soles. Can't recall if it was on Viberg's FB or Instagram.
