The default camera software sucks hard compared to gcam.

I don't have a cat, but someone does:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/how-to/update-10-3-5-0-t3925665/page10

I'm going to use Arnova's Advanced 1.6: Gcam_6.1.021_Advanced_V1.6.190614.0200.apk (Arnova8G2, 2019-06-14, configs, changelog)

which somehow gives even better pictures than BSG's RN7

the difference :D

Liking varies
i still like the more vibrant colour on Gcam

From this sample pics, it's really not a lot of difference like day and night.
I can simply just live with using the stock cam.

but u must also see the other features gcam provide. if u just simple point and shoot, gcam will have superior images more often than not. u see the sample photo, miui cam come out cooler, while gcam has better white balance, especially with the white paint on the model being closer to actual white than stock and the metal stand in the background having a more natural metal look instead of a weird greenish tint. google lens also quite useful. night sight is unbeatable. u also can play around with photo sphere and take wide angle shots, fisheye shots or even 360 deg photos.

to me stock cam is only for manual settings since gcam cannot do that :)

if u look at the sample using ur phone definitely u cant see any difference......if u use ur laptop or pc then u can see what is the differences......the colour are much more better on gcam more darker and natural......and when u zoom the text it is clearer and less noise

You can't make the camera take better pictures if the sensor is limited... software manipulation works only if the camera hardware and software are build to communicate with each other... actually the two photos aren't different... there aren't more details in the GCam shot. the GCam app uses a more aggressive exposure setting so that it looks brighter. You can see that the sky is completely blown in the GCam shot to expose the general image better but the stock cam app protects the sky details from being blown. A simple Highlights/Shadow edit will enable the stock cam app shot to look properly exposed while preserving most of the sky details.

I'm pretty sure u mixed up the stock and gcam images :s22: stock is the first image with the overblown sky and overexposed buildings, while gcam does a much better job at balancing the image. anyway software is just as important as hardware in modern smartphones, if u don't have good signal processing software, it won't matter if u choose the best sensor, the image will still come out bad. google's software is literally the best on the market, hence the images u get from pixels are still better than other phones using the exact same sensor. we must really count our blessings we don't need to pay pixel price to get pixel quality photos :)

Did anyone experienced battery drain with latest Miui Version? It's my spare phone, and even if it's turned off, I noticed thr batt drained a few %, which shouldn't be the case if the phone is switched off.

Because of the GPS which is not suited for most sg apps that need it like grab, sg bus, travel apps. Takes forever to lock on to location

I'm looking to get this phone for my dad who will only use it for calls, whatsapp, camera and Google offline map in msia. If I get local set, will the GPS be decent? Or should I be looking at other models?
