I think you can buy battery and replace and keep as spare phone.

I bought battery from eBay for my Redmi 4A (battery bloated after 2 years of mainly playing Pokemon) and replaced it myself. Quite easy when following the YouTube videos available. Still using it to play Pokemon for long hours.

I ordered the Redmi Note 8 (China ROM) and waiting for it to be delivered.

But my screen on the side separated from the case, you can see a bulging gap. How do I close the gap... or after replacement, it will remain that way ?

I like to wipe my phone a lot. I splash a little water on the screen and wipe it. So far, no problem, even with the gap. But if I can close the gap, it would be much better.

PS: may be Sim Lim sells the battery too ?

Depends on whether the "catch" at the side is broken. But with the gap it is much easier for you to open up the phone.

When I bought the battery from eBay, it came with a set of plastic tools to open up the phone and take out some screws, and also adhesive to glue the new battery to the phone. Then screw back and "snap" the back cover back on.

I also like to wipe my phones a lot with a tissue moistened with some water.

You can try Sim Lim if you want.

That gap he quoted is using double sided tape and its for the screen. Happened on both my Redmi Note/Max.

You mean behind the screen, they just use double sided tape ?
So change the battery and use double sided tape to secure the screen ?

Overrated as the NFC implementation or HW not good ? Not not practical ?

Just a personal preferences, I like to use cards and not phones to pay. The phones I used in recent 5 years all have NFC functions (Galaxy S4 LTE+, iPhone 6S and now Huawei P20) but I do not really use the function -- only to play with the function to confirm the NFC function works.

I thought of using NFC for this:

1. NTUC link points
2. Dash payment at self-checkout kiosk at NTUC, else I have to wait in line to scan the QR-Code.
3. Get rid of 2 credit cards in my wallet.
4. Do payment on BUS, MRT
5. And do payment in general as I see that more and more places accept NFC payment.

Not sure... But to me, I can still queue at the NTUC teller, sometimes 10mins. So to me, yes, nice and good to have but because I bloated my Redmi 4X for no good reason... everything was working fine for close to 2 years. Just because I was watching a short video from my NAS over wifi and charging my phone because battery low, the battery got bloated. So I worry, I might do the same to the new phone. I just think spend a little on the phone that I can survive on. That's all.

Also, I would off my NFC when I'm not using it. SO I don't know it would be a hassle to on and off the NFC. Also, do I need to start my apps... my Redmi 4X loading of apps like the Health App is very slow... so in the end, NFC might not be practical for me due to the hassle.

I also can wait until the Redmi 8 drop till $170 or $150.. or the Redmi Note 8 / Pro drop price further...

I start to think about nfc bcos of singtel dash too. But now ntuc and some other merchants can only do only 1 transaction per week for the rebate liao lol. Seems that heading towards QR code in future,

While most were awaiting the arrival of the Mi Note 10, Xiaomi went ahead and also announced the Redmi Note 8T. It’s essentially identical to the Redmi Note 8 but with added NFC support and an 18W fast charger in the box.

I doubt Redmi Note 8T will be released locally, as it will affect the sales of both Note 8 and 8 Pro but we shall see won't we.
Just take a look at local prices below.

Redmi Note 8/8Pro local RRP:

$229 Redmi Note 8 3/32GB
$269 Redmi Note 8 4/64GB
$299 Redmi Note 8 4/128GB
$329 Redmi Note 8 Pro 6/64GB
$369 Redmi Note 8 Pro 6/128GB

If Redmi Note 8T is priced just +$20 more, nobody will buy Redmi Note 8.
If its priced +$30-40 more, then might as well top-up to get Redmi Note 8 Pro 6/64GB which has far superior specs (SoC/RAM/Camera/Screen/Battery/etc).

Anyway, I believe many here are waiting for 11.11 to use the $31 off min $280 voucher on shopee to purchase the Redmi Note 8 Pro 6/64GB Global Export set @ $26X and/or Redmi Note 8 Pro 6/128GB Local set @ $30X.
