He is a patient type (been teaching for 36yrs) but some people may feel he is naggy. I am the stubborn type because I already knew how to drive from school. However he didn't blew on me.

During my course with him, he never sleep in car (even given the fact I already knew how to drive). He still corrects my mistakes on the road. He also has teaching aids like charts and models in his car to teach you if you are concerned with not understanding instructions.

Give it a try 1-2 lessons and find out how he is like. Overall, I passed on him (I took TP 3x, 2x school).

that was what i did actually. as i was unable to decide whether to go for school/private lessons initially, the lady at the counter told me i can sign up for BTT & FTT with the school and then decide later for the prac lessons. and in the end i went for private prac lessons (and i just passed the test today!!)

just fyi, my theory e-trial test/tests were held at ubi so i'm not sure if this is the same in other schools.

If anyone happens to be looking a PDI for class 3A license (auto car) at Ubi you can try looking for Mr Ng Chin Lye (HP:96828502). He drives a Toyota Vios.

I'm doing this because he's helped me as well as many others to pass their driving test on first attempt. His main goal is to help everyone pass on the first attempt unlike some unethical PDIs who don't really care how many attempts you take to pass because they just wanna earn the money from you through refresher courses or the $150 car rental fee on the test date itself.

He's a very experienced PDI and is good because he will teach u some techniques for the steering wheel that can be applied for all kinds of turnings and IMO, i think that really helps a lot. Although sometimes he can be quite naggy when you make mistakes, but then again, if he doesn't do that then you probably won't improve. He has a record book which he notes down the schedules for his students and another one that indicates the number of times you've gone through the test routes (whether outside or in the circuit) learned and also notes down mistakes so that he can help rectify in the next lesson. He wants his students to be confident for the test by trying his best to preparing them fully.

I have to juggle between my driving lessons and school and so he will actually help me to arrange the time for driving lessons. I really think that he's a very responsible and professional PDI so I highly recommend him.

I've mentioned this before elsewhere, but after reading a lot of the newer forum posts, I just feel the need to say this again...

I know a lot of you who are looking for PDIs are also looking for convenience. "Anyone knows a good PDI who can fetch me at my house???" I get why you ask this question, 'cause I asked this question too, way back when. I couldn't find a PDI who would fetch from under my block, so I settled with the 2nd most convenient place, at a close-by MRT station.

And the bugger who taught me turned out to be a jack-ass who can't teach $hit and really cannot be bothered to do much. I quitted him after 4 lessons (and every time I see a student with him at that MRT station, I feel like getting out of my car and telling the student to go find a different PDI!).

So I gave a chance at other instructors... Some of which are okay, some are so-so, and some can't teach properly (all wayyyyyy better than the 1st guy though!). Then I chanced upon a good one, and boy, was I relieved! Who would've thought that finding an instructor who does his job would be so hard?! And he did his job well, too!

Doesn't matter that I had to travel about half an hour out of my way to learn from him. It all paid off.

tl;dr : Look for good instructors, period. Not convenient ones.

Here's a c&p from one of my e-mails to another forumer who asked :

I'm not sure if they've increased the fees or not, but when I learned from them (Mr Yeo is under Regent Driving Centre), for non-peak timing (weekdays before 6 pm), it's S$26 per hour. For peak timing (weekdays after 6 pm and all day for weekends) it's S$28 per hour.

I usually take 1.5 hours per session, so that's S$39 on non-peak timing and S$42 for peak timing.

There's a one-time registration fee of S$50, and for test day, there's a charge of S$120 for use of Mr Yeo's car (it's S$150 now, according to charleslin - thanks, charleslin!). BBDC circuit charges apply (S$33) if you want to go try out the circuit one last time before test. Normally learners try the circuit out twice. Some once. This is up to you, but must inform Mr Yeo early so he can book for you.

I took 21 lessons in total (17 from Regent Driving Centre, out of which roughly the last 10 lessons were from Mr Yeo) and passed on my first attempt, but I've already had previous driving experience since I was a Transport Supervisor during NS (roughly 5 years ago). I spent roughly less than 1K overall.

Off peak : $28 per hour (Mon- Fri 9am – 6pm)

Booking for car for TP test: $150
BBDC circuit: $33

When driving along the road, to gear up from 1 to 2 just release the clutch in a fluid motion will do right? No need biting point.

Because he told me to hold a bit at half way before releasing, just wondering. Thanks!

Yupz my TP is at SSDC. Book liao but have to cancel lor..no choice...Coz i no longer learning with him...Now looking for another instructor (manual) teaching around woodlands area...You looking for instructor too?

Basically he is being petty about fetch and send service. I am in fact paying for it. But he make it sound as if its a "free service". His vehicle is a racer modified car. He is more conscious about his car than teaching me. There was once, i accidentally change gear while in half clutch mode, he bolted so strongly that i was taken aback. As a student who is a beginner in driving we are bound to make such mistake right so why the sudden reaction by him.

In addition, i told him in 1 of my lesson that i could only commit an hour due to work commitment. Instead of acceding, he flare up saying he do not teach for an hour.

Told myself enough is enough and i would not succumb to such incident again.

To anyone of you who is planning to engage Ang Pho Tho, SFA 1840 L as your private driving intsructor, please think twice.

I think from 1 to 2, maybe you release the clutch a bit too fast ah... That's why he asked you to hold it a bit at halfway. If not, the car will jerk mah.

Didn't release too fast, before I even shift up he told me to hold a bit already.

But only from N to 1 need to catch the biting point right?

The other shifting just release smoothly can already?
