The CPU in even the most basic (but new) phones are more powerful than the ones in most decent routers, let alone basic ones.
IMHO.
The advantage of the routers is in the wifi antenna and additional ports.

:frown:

from there can creates wifi hot sports and shares with other wireless hoe devices
:frown:
IMHO.
Eh... one of main reason to go mobile broadband is to save $.
Laptop is ex vs 4G/5G routers and also consume more power - typical laptop power is 65W ?
5G/4G router should be about 24W and 4G about 18W.

For info, my Zym 5G on Deco X50-5G is 498 download 27.1 upload but ping is 39ms !

Using mobile sim, tried, abandoned, back to fiber.

Different sim provider Different outcome.
Different location Different outcome.

Suitable only for lucky user at specific area. Also no guarantee. Never constant bandwidth delivery.

Disclaimer: me not associated to any provider. Just an end-user with honest feedback.

Mobile also depends on the time of the day. At night usually more users.
My use of 4G/5G router now is for location where my mobile has weak signal and I have no wired or wireless. I place the router to let me have data.

The smart trend now is use 5G phone sim card insert into mifi router and become home wifi. Works for all usage except online gaming.

Bit the bullet and got myself a ZTE 5G modem (G5B).

Tried with my current Zero1 SIM (didn't know it still had 5G trial ongoing)

Pretty promising, more than what I require already, and this is on 5G NSA. I'll try with Circles later, I think they're on SA and got carrier aggregation.

Also great that the modem/router has Bridge Mode, so I can connect it to my own router via WAN and not have to contend with double NAT.

After some time with my new Circles SIM (500GB 5G SA), ping and speed is roughly similar with higher UL, but only when connected to a certain cell. It tends to hop around and lock onto a sh1ttier cell sometimes and I end up with half the bandwidth even with CA.

But anyway, it is still more than enough for what I'm doing. And can't really complain for $10/mth with unlimited calltime in and out.

Thanks for sharing - currently researching on the various mobile router options.
This looks good.
Any other recommendations from anyone else?
Noted that there's Deco X50-5G too.

I got that because of the phone port, which is needed at home. There used to be Archer NX510v, but they're mostly of out of sale by now (or very expensive for what's remaining of a years-old model). There's also D-Link BE7200G, but it does not offer Bridge Mode in the settings.

If no need phone port (and/or Bridge Mode), there are plenty, like the Deco you mentioned.

Would a portable 5G sim card router be good enough? It's just for 1 person usage at home. I will be using it to connect to my computer, smart tv and Google smart speakers
