Those who are worried about going Tokyo too late to catch cherry blossoms this year, you might want to check this out

U can probably try catching sakura in Kyoto or Osaka, since Tokyo's sakura bloomed before those 2 areas this year.

Had strong winds and nearly typhoon on Monday, then hot 25 degrees on tues, about 22 degrees yesterday, and windy and cold 10 degrees so far for today. Had to use my gloves for the first time during my trip for today.

So far, no dust from China...but there's pollen. You can't see it in the air, but people with hay fever will probably need to wear mask.

Next 2 days will probably be around 16 degrees, but forecast will rain on Sunday and will be 6 degrees that day.

You will still be able to catch it, although not the full bloom.

I remember 3 years back we saw the full bloom at Ueno park, about a week later when we go back to Tokyo from Kyoto, we still saw a lot of sakuras.

Just came back from meguro river, also bloomed liao. I think, safe to assume that most sakura trees (if not all) in Tokyo have bloomed. Although not all have reached full bloom yet, but they already look nice on pics liao.

As samtcy said... no. Local trains are cheap. Even to Yokohama (under 1000yen). The sole reason for buying the JR Rail Pass is the shinkansen rides which are a lot more expensive on their own.

On a separate note, the sakura trees at Ueno park are blooming nicely now. Though they are the whiter ones.

I went ueno park at 6 in the morning in hope to try avoiding the crowds....end up having 5 camera crews from tv stations there with their equipments and lights. Grrrr....

There's a nice park with sakura that's much less crowded, next to Oji station. Went there this morning too.

Rikugien garden next to Komagome station is extremely crowded today too...esp late afternoon to early evening since there's light up for the huge sakura tree there. There was a long queue outside the park just to buy the admission tickets.

Ah Komagome. I stay in Bunkyou Ward so I can pop by easily. I'm wondering whether Koishikawa Koen would have nice blooms. Last time round I went there in Autumn, could see quite a number of Sakura trees (bald of course).
