Hi there, would anyone know how does the ranking system works during reservist. I had to ORD as PTE as my pes status was temporary then even though i had completed my BMT recourse before my ORD.

Nothing wrong. After BMT recourse, you only entitled to PTE rank and it is up to your unit if they want to promote you. Most of the time, if your ORD is near during your BMT recourse, unit will not bother to do paperwork for your promotion cause by the time your official promotion came from HQ, you already ORD. So in short, you are shortchange because of their laziness.

However, my pes status is now Perm and i have already completed 3 high key ICTs. Would i still continue to remain as a PTE despite all that? Hope to hear from you bros. Thanks.

How willingly is your NS unit to help you do paperwork for promotion and what so good about you to deserve that promotion? My brother's NS unit very active, so he get promotion every ICT. Some of my friends' NS units will start to give rank during or near MR time while of my friends' NS units are too lazy to even promote a single person in the whole unit. So end day still depend on your unit which mean to answer your question, you may MR as a PTE.

How my last NS unit in Air Force work is:

1) Combat fit can consider for promotion after ICT as per standard SAF guideline.

2) Non-combat fit will only be consider for promotion after 2 ICT to be fair for Combat fit NSmen.

3) There are no limit for promotion for up to CPL. For Army vocation with 3SG rank, you cannot even be promoted to 2SG when you are holding appointment because unit no quota. For Air Force vocation, you can be promoted up to 1SG even if you do not have any appointment. My CSM equivalent appointment holder is an ex-Regular holding the rank of SSG while all Officers can only promoted up to the rank of CPT.

criteria for promotion to CPL, CFC, and all other specialist and Officer ranks are to pass IPPT if they are IPPT-eligible. This refers to their own PES if they are being exempted IPPT or not.

To summaries. Promotion to LCP needs no IPPT at all PES. All other ranks need to pass IPPT unless IPPT exempted.

The answer is no.

NSF Requirement
The requirement for SISPEC (not sure about SCS) is at least Polytechnic Diploma or GCE A but GCE O get the opportunity to be promoted to 3SG. GCE N (academic) rank higher than ITE (vocational) qualification.

Regular / NSman Requirement
After ORD, your requirement as NSman will be the same as Regular. The requirement for SISPEC (not sure about SCS) will be GCE N or ITE qualification. Now ITE (vocational) rank higher than GCE N (academic) qualification.

Since the requirement is only GCE N as NSman, your degree become useless. A lot of NSmen meet the requirement but NS unit only have limited SGT appointment like Sect Cmdr.

Now there is a new scheme call Expertise Conversion Scheme (ECS) and if your degree/licence qualification are relevant to the ECS vocation, you can sent in your application. If you are selected after an interview, you will go for 3 types of training (3 ICT) before you appointed as ME4. Your ECS will only start around or after 8th ICT which mean you will remain your old vocation as man for 7 to 8 ICTs until your ECS start.

Will current CPL has chance to be promoted to SGT or other ranks after graduated from local uni (after 4th ICT onwards)? 😊

Those 'man' rank in service vocation have already completed their SGT course and needs to clock months of experience in order to be promoted to 3SG. You will never hold a Specialist vocation without attending a course or magic from CO.

You can become a 3SG but the whole package require a change of vocation. CO have power to promote anyone up to 3SG but no power to change of vocation. Vocation can only be change after course. So how CO play the game is to promote you to 3SG and you will sent for course for a 'further date' according to SAF requirement but the 'further date' of course can never came in real life.

Haha but to answer your question. No. The only path that a "man" rank can rise up to 3sg and beyond is either you are a technical spec (eg airforce mechanic) or admin spec.

Combatant specialist rank can only be obtained by going through SISPEC/SCS. Education for reservist doesnt play a part. Even in death , Aloy Pang wasnt promoted to a 3sg as he is already at the pinnacle of the "man" rank already.

Yes, possible (nothing to do with your degree though). Depends on your performance, and if you meet the promotion basic criteria. Also, being prompted to 3SG means that you’re slated to take on a higher appointment.

Is there a current vacant role? Or you could be also earmarked to eventually fill the role (succession planning).

Why I say it’s possible? Because it happened in my unit. But he stopped at 3SG and needed to go for further course too.

My unit practices this too. OC needs to rely on his commanders (CSM, PC, PS) for feedback and recommendations.

For my unit case last time, at the end of every ICT, OC will ask the various PC and PS to grade every individual performance and gave him a list of recommended personnel for promotion.

So far only Basic Spec course will guarantee you a promotion to 3SG (if you meet IPPT requirement). Another one will be NS WO course that will guarantee you a promotion to 2WO (that time 3WO not out yet, so not sure if new graduate will be promoted to 3WO or 2WO) but you needs to have at least SSG rank first.

Advanced Spec course does not give you rank promotion but will change your vocation to Senior Spec. As for PL SGT / CSM / RSM course, it does not give you any rank promotion or auto appointment but when your unit sent you to these courses, most likely they have intention to let you hold appointment.

That why you see NSman rank and appointment does not match. For example, RSM only a SSG or 3SG doing a WO job because of his vocation.
