Then mean the EQ people relationship issue?

no. from what I know some volunteer to be retrenched especially knowing that will get a good severance package. Hard to come by you know. can always find another job right after. just don't break too long

Seems like quite a number in the past few months.

I'll start
Late 40s. Let go last week. Financial sector. Married with kids but no more loans so not that stressed in terms of financial.

Will take at least a month break to clear my mind and enjoy a well deserved rest. Then look for job after CNY

Was my 2nd retrenchment by the way

Take care bro. Have a good break first.

The fact is LKY never believed in creating a retrenchment support plan. His goal was simple...get laid off, get off your arse and find another job. He bever believed that the govt should give retrenched workers any handouts like unemployment benefit (like some other western countries)

I have been a HR practitioner for more than 50 years and retired in July 2023. I don't agree with LKY or the PAP attitude towards retrenchment as I believe some helping due to those affected. They and their families should not be left out in the cold! But why would our pap parliamentarians and ministers care? I bet with their well paid positions and the fact that I doubt if any of them had even been laid off...retrenchment and its pain (social and psychological) is something they cannot understand or appreciate.

My advice after more than 50 years on corporate management is simple. STOP working for companies! Start your own business. No employer owes you a livelihood. The only reason they have you is because they need you. The day they don't need you, you are history! All this talk about loyalty to a company is BS. You owe no loyalty to any company. Who can pay you and provide for you and your family is all you should care about. They day they cannot; go somewhere else!

All this talk about we are one family and career progression is also BS. They only want you to believe we are one family coz they don't want to create this artificial sense of belonging in you. Like I said, they want this so you don't quit on them until they don't need you; then it doesn't matter if you quit! Career progression is a pipe dream they paint for you. You think you are the only one they say they have identified for that director position? BS, my friend, they have identified a few other people for that director position...and may be the best man wins! So, don't be surprised if you are being groomed but someone else gets that prized promotion when the time comes! That's the way the cookie crumbles, my friend. You just got played...although your boss will tell you in all sincerity he was developing you for the position but alas Joe was chosen. Never mind you can try for another director position. And like a sucker you will work your guts off and take a lot of **** and crazy work hours with no work life balance...whybare you so dense, my friend?

The truth about the corporate world is...it is all about networking. Knowing the right people...that's where you will see you climb that corporate ladder!

I agree with most points. I took a laid back approach at work for the past few years and perhaps thats was one of the reasons I was let go. I was jaded pretty early on with little ambition to climb the ladder. Mostly it's because I don't respect my management and hence don't see myself in their role.

I think even if you put in a lot of efforts, there is still a chance that you will be let go by the company. I mean such thing is unpredictable. There are many possible factors.

So think of this way, it is better to put in lesser efforts and be let go, than to put in a lot of efforts and still kena let go. The latter will make you damn angry and gek sim.

the year before was very good. didn't get to last year's appraisal since they decided to cut me anyway for cost reason. Otherwise I would expect it be average to above average actually

My wife said that her bank has been letting go of all their contract staff. Better don't work as contract staff in banks as they are the first to kena retrench.
Seriously if our banks retrench then we should be worried

Banks should never retrench staff. Banks survive on money. So if retrench staff, staff don’t see a need to continue account with that bank so transfer out money and open account with another bank. So that bank short of a customer. If that bank retrench 200 staff, then 200 customers gone.

Please la. Our monies is a pittance to the banks. Revenue from us probably less than 0.0001%
