Is it practical to put about 100k SGD of ETF/stocks on the platform for 10 years to grow money?
Please refer to TD Ameritrade thread to see the posts of those affected. Any entity is susceptible to closing shop although for TD Ameritrade company never close shop but to those affected it is as good as it is so much hassle to transfer over to other broker. Some cannot transfer some miss some monies some miss dividends etc etc. Just don't all in my advice and if 100k is only 0.1% of your monies by all means please proceed at most lose 0.1% no harm.

You can't do that for Revolut, youtrip etc. Just top up in SGD, and the conversion only happens when u use it to pay for a purchase.

Anyone on Android use Google Pay to top up into Revolut?

I'm new to Revolut and from what I read there should be a fee for topping up from Apple/Google Pay but it says they will show the fees too if any.

But when I do my first top up today, I decided to just try Google Pay and it went through without any additional charges. It charged $40 on my Google Pay Card, and shows $40 balance in Revolut. Topped up with MasterCard on Google Pay (if that matters).

Can check if it's always be the case (no additional fee via Google Pay) or some additional fee/charges may appear on my credit card few days later?

Edit: I've tried to top up again this time it's charging the processing fee. Perhaps they waive it for first top up.

Yes, first top up is free. You can read the terms and conditions here

Ahhhh regret then should've just top up more at once.

Btw, another question.

I'm heading to Taiwan and I do know that TWD account is not available in Revolut but I do notice that it is there in the converter. If I spend on Revolut in Taiwan, it will convert following the currency converter rate and no extra fee except weekend/out side market hour fees correct?

Does Youtrip have charges for topup by credit card ?
Note: With effect from 20 December 2021, a 1.5% service fee will be applied on top-ups made with Visa credit cards. Learn more about this charge here.

Yes, charge to the card and it will auto convert the currency based on the exchange rates at that particular time.
Do note that currency may fluctuate and spending at let say 10am and 4pm may result in different conversion though it will be close.
If you are not sure about the 1% fee, you can do a quick currency conversion in the app and it will state the fee if applicable. But if you are lazy then you can just pay for it then review your statement in the app as it will also state if there are fees involved.

Revolut vs Youtrip which one better or each got its own good?
Sometime rates are better on youtrip, sometimes youtrip is worst... vice versa.
Why not get both? ;)
Update 6 Dec 2023 - Both supports apple and googlepay

Youtrip
- Pros over Revolut
1) SGD 50 more withdrawal fee free (may not be as important to you but maybe for others)
- Cons over Revolut
1) Money in there is stuck there till you spend it. No cashout for leftovers

Revolut
- Pros over Youtrip
1) can link to bank egiro and withdrawl with no fuss
2) Can withdraw leftover cash back to bank - dosent work if you top up via CC (Not too sure about this, please double check TnC)
- Cons over youtrip
1) TBH i am not sure since all these pros and cons are really nitpicking at this point.

Revolut sometimes better rate but can't top up via credit card without fee.
Just curious, did you top up via CC just to stretch your credit time? why not just egiro or paynow it?

Ahhh no Google Pay, then I skip for now. I just need something for upcoming trip.

But I think my usage will most likely still be 50:50 Cash : Card as Taiwan I believe still a lot of those smaller shops stuck with cash now.
