I did not read the actual novel but it appears when the 3 parties are in place, the country had a proper balance. Maybe any ROTK experts can provide some advice on this scenario?

Then go read it up. By the way, Wei Wu Shu is 3 different countries not 3 different parties

They always mention North Wei, East Wu and West Shu. Thought they all serve a common Han Dynasty? It's actually 3 different countries?

You could say they are 3 diff faction vying to be the supreme among that time.

Were Wu and Shu actually trying to protect Han dynasty initially? Did they decide to join forces to attack Wei because Wei tried to reign supreme?

Me thinks SQ anti cao cause cao too powerful. LB anti cao cause he feels cao controlling han emperor too much. So he wants to restore the han dynasty. Cao only want power. Its only after his child take over then they usurped the throne

Sent from somewhere only we know using GAGT

I see. So initially Cao Cao just wanted to control Han but did not proclaim himself as emperor. After he passed on, his son wanted to be emperor.

So it's still the best scenario when the 3 parties are in place, checking each other to ensure the Han dynasty remains?

it was 3 different parties until they decided to pro-claim themselves emperor. and even then, they are all still in china.

That's what I thought so too. All of them pledged under the Han dynasty to serve the Han emperor and citizens right? Cao Cao was prime minister 丞相?

actually.. i'm not sure of balance per se..

year in year out lots of resources were spent to gain territory.. rather than improving the livelihood of the people.. yes not one became all powerful and tyrannical.. but it wasn't an age of prosperity either..

I see. It's still better that the 3 parties remain as they were and put their heart to serving the Han dynasty and not infringe each other? The Sima clan took advantage and conquered everyone? Or did Cao family conquer both parties before being usurped by Sima?

they were actually not in balance
shu and wu had to join forces against Wei
Even so, shu and wu had a hard time, reason is because wei was stronger than wu and shu joint together since wei had more population, more resources and stronger armies

however, wei couldnt invade them successfully because shu was protected by mountains and narrow valleys where they could guard and ambush easily

wu on the other hand had wide rivers and water bodies which was a natural defense against enemies

Sima clan conquered Wei first from internal, then invaded Shu, and after that defeated Wu

they served a common Han Dynasty as a pretense to gain power
in those days, rallying for the old Han emperor gains the power and support from the people

but they all were not interested in serving Han at all, aside from Shu's Liu Bei who was the distant relative uncle of the old Han emperor
He claimed he wanted to restore Han
