Anyone bought the latest Samsung A8? Is the camera quality on par with S6? Or at least with Note 4? Got optical image stabilizer?

a bit hard to say at this point. this is the first device using Samsung's new 16MP ISOCELL sensor with1 μm pixel size i believe? which allows device to be thinner. No OIS looking at the specs.

Compare to S6 which is using 16MP ISOCELL/SONY sensor with 1.12 μm pixel size with OIS.

Bigger pixel size means it will be able to capture more light, so by right S6 will still have advantage especially with OIS, but Samsung said that by incorporating new sensors, it should be on par with 1.12 μm pixel size sensors. But have to wait for reviews lor.

To me i don't think will be better than S6. That is still their flagship device after all.

Kasia Mobile is selling $615. Cheapest so far. If camera is good, will hoot this one. But if not, then Lg g4 which price is dropping close will be a better buy.

actually S6 pricing also not far off. Kasia selling at 720 for 32gb. If don't mind can even look for lightly used sets will be cheaper. The plastic LG G4 is at 680 nia. :D

Local Galaxy A8 is A800F. This means its 32gb Exynos 5430 version.. Not snapdragon variant

Means no quick charge? Cuz exynos no quick charge one

Sent from LGE LG-D855 using GAGT

Not necessarily. For the A8 case, probably no quick charge. They probably didn't implement it since Exynos 5430 is an older chipset (used in the Alpha which i don't thing supported fast charge). But on the S6, the Exynos 7420 has support for what Samsung calls Adaptive Fast Charging, which is pretty much the same things as Quick Charge.

wow A8 is quite overpriced eh... cheapest I can find is $615. and Exynos 5430 is used in the Alpha.. not even the Note 4's 5433 lol

but it does have 32GB internal storage and microSD card slot.. good combination.

Actually the 5430 is a decent performer as well, and probably comparable to the Snapdragon 800/801? it is like a last generation flagship chipset from Samsung. This is not supposed to be a high end device after all. But it is a 32-bit chip which is a little weird to put on a brand new phone in 2015. :s13:

yeah. confirmed no OIS for the A8.

but really feel very thin ... dun really like the rear though .. prefer the s6/s6 edge though but different league la ...

would be a better phone IF there is OIS.

It's amazing how Samsung get things right with the A series phone. May not brag the latest technology, but the design language is simply breath taking.

I just found out the A8 also have the double tap to launch camera feature like the S6, and also got the same type of fingerprint sensor. Also... have LTE Cat 6, so can use Singtel's 4G+... and RRP is cheaper than A7. Then got 2 sim slot (4G dual standby type), and one of the slot can be use for microsd card expandability also.:eek::eek:

Samsung trying to bring the fight to the Mi Note? Mi note is S$569, A8 dealer price is S$615, which is very similar. hahaha. :s13: A8 slimmer than Mi Note also, Exynos 5430 comparable to SD801 also. Think the only thing lose out is internal 32GB only (but got SD card slot), and the RAM.

The 2nd SIM is 2G only, according to: http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news-samsungs-galaxy-a8-its-thinnest-smartphone-yet

Mi Note has BOTH SIM capable of 4G.

Dual SIM capability – The Galaxy A8 4G+ supports Dual SIM with the chosen primary SIM supporting LTE Category 6 network and its secondary SIM supporting 2G network. The unique hybrid SIM slot also doubles up as an external memory card slot supporting up to 128GB of additional memory when a SIM card is not in use, offering users the flexibility to use their device according to their preference and lifestyle.

Eh, what I understand from this is that both sim support 4G+, but only the slot you choose will get 4G+, and the other will be 2G only? If not I'm not sure why they will include the word "chosen" in their press release. But I can't confirm since I don't have the phone.

Mi Note both slot support 4G, but is Dual SIM dual standby anyway. So only one slot can use 4G at any given time if i'm not mistaken.

edit: http://gsminsider.com/2015/07/samsu...gapore-specifications-availability-and-price/
other sites saying 1 sim 4g, the other 2g only too. :( So i guess it isn't dual sim standby after all, bummer.
