Hello!

Does anyone know where I can safely order a Beam on line to Sweden?

I have heard of Whymobile, but I am not presented with any form where I am asked for my name and address for shipping before they expect me to transfer money through PayPal.

Also, whymobile is not the address that is presented as the recipient, but instead: "tzlee(a)tzlee(dot)com" (I'm not allowed to write addresses on this forum yet). That sounds strange and seems to be a private person. He has a blog at www(dot)tzlee(dot)com

I had no problems getting my Beam through WhyMobile. I imported into Australia. It look 2 weeks to get here. Ring them before you buy.

A couple of months later and the projector has proven very useful. Loving this phone!

Thank you, MisLycA!

Do I have to call them?

Did you buy insurance for the delivery?

Was the phone-box inside an external box when you got it?

I called them, english no problem, but time zone may be for you. When I ordered, the Beam page instructed to call before ordering.

So useful and novel having a projector phone, I am actually scared and worried there wont be another projector phone.

I didnt get postal insurance. But thats just me, I only get bare minimum insurance to cover damage I do to others. I think that getting insurance is like gambling. You keep putting more and more money in, but you get smaller and smaller payouts with a wall of text called 'conditions' that is designed so the insurance company can weasle out of paying. The odds are calculated against you, insurance companies hire the best statiticions.

My Beam arrived in perfect condition and I havnt put it down since :)

Thanks again.

I ordered the Beam on Friday night, It's on its way here now.

I did get the postal insurance though, to be safe. I had planned to not buy it, since Whymobile noted that they would be forced to declare the full value of the phone to customs if insurance was chosen. When I asked, Whymobile said that they would have to declare it anyway since some phones had been stuck at customs when they had not declared full value.

This is my first outside-EU-purchase, so I felt that it would be better to be safe than sorry.

Anyway, I hope all goes well and that I will be as pleased with it as you are.

Did you get the latest firmware with yours? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that mine will have the latest version.

I too imported my Beam (into New Zealand) but way back in July, got whymobile to send it as a warranty repair unit so there werent any custom charges or anything which was great.

Arrived safe and sound too. I too feel like MislycA. I do not see myself upgrading to any other phone without a projector, atm it is being used way too much. I watch a lot of movies and stuff on it lol

@MislycA - How does the Beam fair in Aus? meet any other Beam users? It must've generated attention everywhere u went right haha. It certainly did for me here in nz

I have never met another Beam user, I helped create 2. For a couple of months I may have had the only Beam in Australia. Such a head turner to the masses. I became reluctant to pull it out in front of crowds, became mobbed. Now two friends have one. One was forma iphone die hard. Talk about a missed oportunity Samsung.

Beam doesn't seem to allow apps to work behind web proxy on wifi connection. Aft setting proxy, only web browser is working. do yr Beam behave the same? My fw is JI1. According to samsung support, all apps should work behind web proxy. In the same network, iphone 4 are able to work behind proxy via wifi connection.

Got my Beam

I now have my Beam. I got it as a Christmas gift and I have now had it for about 3 weeks.

My impressions so far:

Pros:

I was glad to find out that I had gotten my Beam with the latest JI1-firmware.

The projector is indeed very impressive, and it seems that Samsung was not exaggerating when they claimed 50 inches projection. In a dark environment with a white wall, it seems it could go up to a 100 inches ( I have not measured it yet).

Cons:

The construction seamed to be very sturdy and nice at first, but I have experienced that the glass seems to get a bit lose at times. I don't know why - the glue getting lose when the device is getting warmer?

The focus weal keeps "rolling" out of focus by it self right after I have adjusted it correctly. It is VERY annoying. I might try to put something next to the wheel to make it stick to how I have set it.

The battery runs out surprisingly fast. But my brother's HTC Desire HD is much worse.

I have not rooted my Beam yet, since I fear damaging my device. I don't want to have to send it all the way to Singapore in case something would go wrong. What are the risks if I root my Beam? Could I brick my phone?

What if something would go wrong? Could I easily just restore the phone to how it was new by some internal firmware back-up?
