No need.

1. Activate the terminal by tapping against the side.

2. Enter amount to pay.

3. Tap against the same side to confirm

4. Some of the older machines will prompt for 3 digit CVV. Just enter 000 and you're done.

From my experience, citibank cards cannot enter CCV. It will fail. DBS/SCB/OCBC all no issue with entering CCV.

As I've posted earlier, they only need to key in the virtual card number into their separate POS system. The singpost I went to, the credit card terminal only displays the virtual card number very briefly. Some other terminals display for a long time, take down this number and give it to them. I've used successfully, with manual entry of the card number into their system.

Actually, most of my Samsung Pay experience on Citibank card. My first time entering CCV was at SP Power, entered the actual card CCV, payment went through. Think I tried at Home Fix also, entered some random number (according to Samsung Pay, any number can), also approved.

thats in theory, but its linked to the pos system so amount and receipt to be generated is not linked i believe.

I've successfully done this b4 at:

1. SGH

2. A chinese restaurant ($800+)

3. Robinsons

The link between the POS system and the credit card terminal is just to transfer the payable amount.

Have you tried it yet and what are the specific issues you've encountered?

So far the only place i wasn't successful was at SP power but thats cos they refused to accept Samsung. The terminal there works as mentioned by other ppl who have tried.

In general all terminals should work, even the older ones. However, there might still be a few super old terminals that can't detect the signal as what Samsung mentioned.

So frankly speaking I would say 99% of the terminals should work. I have not encountered any that didn't work.

As fone has mentioned, you'll notice all the transactions in Samsung Pay are in the virtual card number.

Samsung Pay for the win! Feel sorry for the Apple Pay users. :D

for singpost, they always swipe, i half wanted to confront or email feedback are they doing double swiping... since actual payment they insert the chip into a real POS instead of their terminal...

Huh? What's the procedure like? They input amount first, then swipe card? I believe for some places, I did "swipe" the Samsung Pay card in first, then they input amount on the terminal, which should work?

The link between the POS system and the credit card terminal is just to transfer the payable amount.

They just need to be able to trace which transaction is for which sale. Some places use last 4 digit is sufficient, others like Singpost, need the full card number. Some newer systems have this process automated, others need to double swipe or manual input.

May I check on the procedures for swiping? As per my reply on top, for merchants who have no clue how Samsung Pay works, I just reach over and transmit my card number into the terminal and they key in the purchase price afterwards (if it is not automatic). I do get rejected a number of times, did I get the procedure wrong?

If you see they have the paywave terminals, tell them you're paying by paywave. They will key in the amount and ask you to tap your card. So in this case you'll tap your phone instead and you're done.

If there's no paywave available, tell them you're paying by Card (Visa or Master etc..). They will ask for the card to swipe, so in this instance you will put your phone right next to the slot or basically just hover over the terminal. You should hear something and the screen will change and they will input the amount. Afterwhich you would need to tap/hover your phone again to confirm the amount. Another scenario I noticed was older terminals asked for the CVV number after you tap. So give them the last 3 digits of the virtual card. I haven't tried the CVV method (last time that happened, I forgot the CVV number is the last 3 digits). Will let you guys know if I encounter it again.

I suggest don't confuse them by telling them you're paying by Samsung Pay cause 95% of them don't know WTF is it and will reject it outright. Just either pay by card or by paywave... as simple as that.

The obvious paywave terminals are the newer ones with the UOB/DBS/Citibank label on it. The older ones would just have the 'wavey' logo.

However, up to now I still can't get Taxi payments to work for Comfort/Citycab as it keeps giving failures (both the payment terminal and the phone will prompt 'fail, try again') Not sure about the other cab companies though. I usually take UberX, but if none available I'll take a Taxi if need to.

In the end Samsung Pay is just a trademarked terminology. So let's refrain from mentioning Samsung Pay until the non techie population catches up.

Hmm, I've never tapped the phone twice to confirm the amount, but the terminal did not ask for the card again (at least in my tries so far). What does it say on the terminal when it needs the card again, or do I keep holding my phone there until transaction completed? I will look out for this.

Can't help you here, I don't take cab very often, even when I do, I am usually in hurry, so might not have time to go play with Samsung Pay.

As I've mentioned, this is for them to track which credit card transaction is for which payment. Small organizations can do paper tracing by stapling the merchant charge slip with the receipt, bigger ones like Singpost do it electronically by keying into the system. Probably for audit / accounts purposes.

I've only tried once, but the lady at Singpost typed in the card number for me.

Hi guys,

When using Samsung Pay, if they ask for CVV number, it is actually the last 3 digits of the virtual card shown on your phone (not your actual card). Not sure why the app says last 4 digits. Anyways, just give them the last 3 digits instead.

If the terminal asked for CVV number that means it's an old terminal. Apparently newer terminals don't ask for the CVV.

Actually I didn't know when to tap the phone again, basically the cashier will tell me need to swipe again.

So it looks like a few methods to do this 'swiping' depending on the firmware of the payment terminal.

Paywave is so much easier lol...
