SATA Cable Experiment - Does Quality Affect SSD Performance

Anyone has replace their stock sata cable with after market high quality/performance cable ?
Which one did you get and is there any improvement ? Anyway i'm stll on sata for ssd and optical,
it's good enough for my gaming need.

I wouldnt say quality but rather cables that meet specifications. It's just like lan cable. A cat 6 cable is obviously different in construction compared to cat5 and able to need necessary specs.

You can have a very expensive and fancy looking cable but it didn't meet the specs when tested.

Doubt there are such thing as "high quality" SATA cable.

So long the cable have retention clip than it is a good cable compare with older SATA cable.

Speed wise, it's not the quality of cable but rather what storage driver you are using.
AMD platform wise have to use the MS standard AHCI driver.
Intel wise depends, if there is Intel Rapid Storage driver/AHCI driver than use it.

I know some Intel build uses the MS standard AHCI driver, you can try the Intel Rapid Storage driver/AHCI
but that is if the PC is modern spec.
Older platform like H81, H87, Z87, H97/Z97 best to use the MS standard AHCI driver.

I did test in the past when I still have these old PCs before moving to Intel 9th gen.

During the days of IDE devices with ribbion IDE cables. These cables come in difference quality build and gauges.
I always go for the best quality guild and biggest gauge because i think that make a difference.

IDE days really bring me back memories but IDE cables there are a lot of different types.

Is actually the number of pins on the right is IDE 80 pin cable which is required for over Ultra DMA mode 2 speed.

The left cable is IDE 40 pin cable and this cable is slower which is commonly used for DVD drives or floppy drives since these drive don't need a fast connection unlike HDD.
When SATA came, it is just one standard cable no more different type of cable as well as need to set jumper settings etc.

Really not much reasons to use unless building a custom NAS/storage servers these days. Normally you need a certain amount of storage density (subjected to deploy scenarios/specific use cases) to justify the use of such thin cables, which helps to alleviate the issues on cable mess in tight enclosures (rack or workstations)

Most PCs/laps mainly uses M.2 now.​

Yup.. but still those are good cables you've shown. I mean as in not so bulky and can bend accordingly without restriction.. good for super tight areas or small nas build. btw I have no idea what tsteo77 talking about lol.. Sata cables just use what comes with the mobo good enuff..

Nice cables. Where did you get them? I'm using SATA for 2 SSDs I have on my old rig that are used mainly for storage and games. Stock cables work fine for me, just looking for thinner cables that maybe easier to cable-manage in my ITX build

I'm honoured members of this forum still remember knowledge that i shared sometime ago.

Anyway it's the right thing to do to use better cable for sata just like peoples would for display/audio/ethernet/usb.
You can't benchmarked the benefit, you have to play/use to benefit from it. I remember back in the days when i owned and play with
car/motobike. Replacing stock ignition spark plug cables clearly make a difference to acceleration.
