Every round since 2016, I apply either bto or sbf, but zero luck still.. 2nd timer here.. Everytime they launch, I treat it as buying $10 toto,,...![]()

just curious- do 2nd timers even stand a chance? the odds really very hard to beat
Looking at so many of us didnt even get a number , i am start hesitating should i give up my number in SOBF Nov 2017...
Got a relatively big 2 digit number and till date most of my fav unit gone.
If i don't compromise and give up this chance , there may be no number given in the next few round also. its all about odds game....
sigh ...
Some other forum said 1st time housing buyer are always the most picky 1 and unrealistically looking for a perfect flat ( but who doesnt want ? )
Perhaps i should dig the list again and adjust my expectation too.
Don’t think there is any perfect unit, just need to manage expectations and all depends how urgent one’s need for housing.
Luck plays an integral part, I believe many of us here have been unsuccessful multiple times. Yet, many others who have been given a chance to select would rather drop out just coz they don’t get that ideal perfect unit, depriving those who are desperate in need of housing and can’t afford resale for various reasons.
Hmm, the way you say it sounds like it's a horrible thing people are doing just because they don't want a 2nd floor unit next to the rubbish dump. If those with a bad number could give away their number to those desperately in need of a house, would happily do it. But that's not how it works.
Current SBF process take anywhere between 6 months to one year. If you are desperate for a unit, you will go for it. You would know that the smell is not an issue especially if one is not home from 9-5pm and the house door is still likely to be closed when you are home.
Aside from that, statistically, 2 in 5 couples do not choose even when they have the choice. If you wish to quote rubbish dump as an example, please go ahead to look at previous SBF flat availability and make a guess if ALL units left are next to rubbish dump? Because chances are that it is not. Following this logic as well, why higher floors next to rubbish dump is ok?
If you wish to quote lower level as why they do not wish to select a flat (if not situated near a rubbish dump), please do enlighten me as to why this is a valid reason and why lots of couple who claim to need a house badly will reject this? Majority of those left are units ranging between #2-4, even at mature estate. I genuinely want to know what is the stigma with lower levels.
We all know that when you submit a ballot, couples have a unit/project in mind. Some are willing to look at others, some flatly don't wish to look others and wait for the next ballot. Some even apply for fun.
You can take a look at Nov 2017 SBF forum and see that one or two are already considering to pull out altogether - and not because of 2nd unit next to rubbish dump reason. This is basically a lack of research and exactly the kind of people that @dreamcatcher is referring to.
You're right that it's not how it works. A bad number is one thing. But you need to manage your expectation as well knowing that you are entering a balloting system and nothing is guaranteed in your favor.
Just using the low floor and rubbish dump as an example and can't give everyone's reason for giving up a chance to select of course.
I don't agree that everyone who applies for SBF are desperate and being desperate is not a prerequisite to apply for SBF either.
I agree that people who have not done their research and drop out even with a bunch of reasonably 'desirable' units left are annoying but my point simply is, they are not 'horrible' people for wanting what they want for the house they might live in for the rest of their lives so don't need to make them sound like they are. I think this should be fair enough?![]()
It’s fair in the sense that it is reasonable that everyone wants to get an ideal unit. Everyone wants that.
I don’t think it was meant to make it sound horrible although it is selfish if you drop out because you’re being fussy, obviously it will ruffle some nerves especially those who genuinely need a house. Even more so that you have a plan f selling it off after 5 years for a profit.
But all in all, I do agree with you that people have the right to choose a unit for a lifetime. I only disagree that people should exercise better mentality when submitting an application, especially those under the “for fun” category![]()

Felt like it was waste for him to get such a good number when he could have chosen the same unit even if his number was 60/52 instead of 3/52. But oh well, that's how the system works.
