Just another campaign to appreciate good food outside the school prison.
Why not ?
Showing the kids and teenagers that food can be lousy and prepare them for NS or tougher life ahead.

Need to be STOPPED and SCRAPPED with immediate effect and incentivise interested person to cook in school canteen for the good interest of Singapore students ?

MOE and school should relax their school canteen operator or vendor guidelines on price control, types of food etc except food safety and hygiene which is non-negotiable ?

Agreed 👍 ?

PM LW, Minister Desmond Lee, MOE etc please do the necessary for Singapore and Singaporean ?
This is why people dont want to be teachers.

Over interference from parents and from those who are not even parents.

The present gen are too char siew.
Time to toughen them up with lousy food.
No la bro, not like that say.

Your logic if compared to cavemen era, they would be saying we are char siew for making improvement to our food handling processes, should just start a stick fire and roast it without cleaning the meat and making sure parasites are removed etc etc.

Improvement towards QOL standards, be it food or living or work etc, should be an ongoing things across generations. If this generation and beyond is able to enjoy better QOL due to us making the changes, just like how generations before us did so we can enjoy today, then we should do what is necessary to ensure that happens.

The problem now is food contamination is a backward step towards this improvement and while accidents does happens from time to time, the question to ask here is, is this case really due to that or is it a case of malignant business practices or a case of typical local working culture, in the sense that workers are just clocking in and out and not bothering with anything else or other possible factors at play.

My comment is just a joke.
No need to be so serious.

The food poisoning case will indicate how stubborn the admin want to push this crap thing and whether they will have the honesty to come clean or brush it aside like the previous food ration poisoning.
My guess is no fault is found.

May as well employ salaried staffs to freshly cook cai png or meals at the school canteen rather than paid F&B businesses and organisations for central kitchen meals that high risk of food poisoning and lao sai ?

Minister of education is not putting school students food safety and hygiene as utmost priority ?

Do you even know the underlying reason? Its because no one wants to do it. The older generation of school canteen stall holders are retiring and there are no young takers.
No need to argue with edmw ginnapi...

Central kitchen will become the norm...
Eventually all will become central kitchen...
When current old vendors retired...

No way that business model can allow any to make enough money to buy 0.5m BTO...

they trying import to commuist idea, centralised kitchen was the key element for communist china in the 1950s and1960s

Yes — the “centralised kitchen” or communal dining hall system was a defining feature of Communist China during the late 1950s and early 1960s, especially under the Great Leap Forward. It was intended as a revolutionary social experiment but became one of the most disastrous policies of that era.

🍲 What Were Centralised Kitchens?

  • Communal dining halls were set up across rural China during the Great Leap Forward (1958–1962).
  • Families were required to hand over their private grain and food supplies to the collective. Meals were then prepared and distributed centrally.
  • The idea was to eliminate private cooking, promote equality, and free up labor for industrial and agricultural production.

🎯 Goals of the Policy

  • Ideological: Reinforce collectivism by breaking down family-based consumption.
  • Practical: Supposedly improve efficiency in food preparation and allow peasants to spend more time in collective farming or steel production.
  • Political: Demonstrate the superiority of socialism over traditional household life.

⚠️ Consequences

  • Over-reporting of harvests: Local cadres exaggerated grain yields to meet political targets. Much of the grain was requisitioned by the state, leaving communal kitchens with little food.
  • Unsustainable consumption: At first, communal halls encouraged unlimited eating, leading to rapid depletion of grain stocks.
  • Collapse into famine: By 1960–61, food shortages became catastrophic. The communal dining system is widely regarded as a major cause of the Great Leap Famine, which resulted in tens of millions of deaths.

🧭 Historical Significance

  • The communal dining halls became symbolic of the excesses of Maoist collectivisation.
  • By the mid-1960s, the system was largely abandoned as China shifted back to household-based food preparation.
  • Historians now view the centralised kitchen experiment as a cautionary tale of how ideological zeal can override practical governance.

In short, centralised kitchens were indeed a “key” feature of Communist China in the 1950s–60s, but they are remembered less as a success and more as a tragic policy that deepened the Great Leap Famine.

Would you like me to also trace how this idea of communal kitchens influenced later socialist experiments in other countries (like Cuba or Vietnam), or keep the focus strictly on China?

It’s due to the rich poor parity… the rich has pull the prices of housing so high that it’s no longer possible to sell food so cheap
sinkie pawn sinkie ?

The same person(s) complaining that singles should not be treated equally in the hdb lottery draw are the same buying condo and decoupling, flipped the hdb and ballot again. Driving up prices by having multiple properties. It's no longer the foreigner property buyer driving up the prices. But the greed of locals
