Hi all, thanks for sharing your experience on driving to Khao Yai. Can I check I intend to go BKK for 1 night after Khao Yai, is it very tough to drive in BKK? Where is a good point/hotel for me to return the car? That is not too difficult to drive to. Or should I return to airport and find a way to BKK town? Appreciate some sharing. TIA

If u go back and only in BKK at night time then can drive and return back to airport lo.

If u staying at BKK whole day then probably not.

Night time a bit lesser traffic but actually more or less the same. Haha.

it depends where u rent the car and which company.
some company will come to your hotel to collect so u don't have to return. etc .

hi all! thanks for your informative response, initially was thinking how to get there, and after reading this, i guess i will go with the self drive option! :)

anyway, i was just thinking if there is any "peak"/bad times to go to khao yai. im actually planning to go there early apr 18 with my SO.

what are some places that we can visit? as above, was thinking of one night stay in different places.. totally, i think going either 4d3n or 3d2n, depending on activity, then back to BKK to continue!

thanks all!

Hi, thinking of driving to Khao Yai. Any Bros could share how you get to the popular destinations like Palio Village, Primo piazza, Farm Chok Chai, Hobbit's House? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm planning to self-drive as well from DMK Airport to Khao Yai, but am concern about the patrol. Is there any patrol or gas station within Khao Yai?

Pak chong should have petrol station. Anyway I feel thats a needless concern. Full tank can travel 500km at least... and petrol stations are almost everywhere in Thailand... Just start looking out for and fill when below half tank if you are kiasu....

Hi everyone just to ask say my fight lands at DMK at 3pm would it be ok to still drive to Khao Yai?

Is it difficult to get there when it’s evening or turns dark?

Actually I would agree with Blackcube also. It might be safer to drive in the day as we're not so familiar with their roads too.

Not sure which airport you're coming from. There's some hotels near the Suvarnabumi airport. Novotel which is right beside it, but not cheap about $200/night. Next nearest is Grand Inn Come, about $50/night and then Amaranth $90/night.

I stayed at both Grand Inn Come and Amaranth before. Both are about 10, 20 mins away respectively from the airport. Nearer one is Grand inn come but not as new as Amaranth. For 1 night, still ok la.

Anyway, enjoy your drive up to Khao Yai, clear your hp cos will prob take a lot of photos. Haha

I'm now at Khao Yai. Drove from Suvarnabhumi to here without needing to top up petrol. Distance is only 200km. Plenty of rest stops in between and there are a few patrol stations around Khao Yai.

Am at Khao Yai now. Past few evenings when we leave for dinner about 6pm, it's dark and after dinner, sometimes for old man like me need to turn on the highbeam. Most of the signs are in Thai so just use google maps to drive around.

From about 12-3pm can be hot (for me😁) temp abt 30degrees? After 4 pm, cools down pretty fast. Some of those in my group who can’t take cold will bring a light jacket for dinner when seated outdoors

Hi, would like to learn about self-driving to Khao Yai. Abit skeptical driving in overseas, not knowing well enough their traffic condition and ruling. Have been to Bangkok and know their traffic is quite bad.

is it easy to drive from Bangkok to Khao Ya then? How to go about renting their car from airport and roughly how much will it cost? Without driving is it easy to roam around in Khao Ya? Appreciate advice.

Thailand is right hand drive so same as sg. If u drive enough in sg then should be fine there. Be more careful when coming out from small road and look out for car coming from small road. Other than that mostly the same ba.

BKK itself traffic is bad. Outside of it is ok. But depending on when you go, the traffic can be bad outside as well like if u go on songkran then good luck to you.

It's easy. Mostly one way not much turning until you reach ky. Renting from airport usually more expensive than downtown but probably more convenient. If normal car + insurance depending on company, maybe 50-60? Without driving, I'm not sure how u can roam in KY. If u take your bus there then have to follow the bus? Unless you rent driver to send u there and drive u around but alot more expensive than self drive.
