Just signed up for SNBB 8MPS

Can this Residential CD be used to connect the modem to my laptop via ethernet cable? I don't want to use the Singnet SmartWizard CD.

I tried the Residental CD and after installation, while I was able to get the SpeedTouch website, somehow I can't seem to surf the net (eg, can't get into yahoo.com or anywhere else). I used the Basic ---> Routed PPP rather than bridge because I wanted to establish a connection to the internet first and then worry about using a wireless router later.

In future I want to bridge the modem to use a linksys router. But if I can't even connect to Singnet via ethernet (ST 536v6 Modem --> ethernet port --> laptop ethernet port (RJ-45) ), then how to bridge the modem and connect to router?

What am I doing wrong? Die die also must use the Singnet SmartWizard CD, ah? If so, won't it screw up when later on I use the Residental CD to bridge the modem?

Ok, I tried the Residential CD, bridged the ST536v6, and was able to log into SNBB if I connect the yellow RJ-45 ethernet cable from the modem to the laptop. But then how do you guys go to the linksys WRT54G router webpage to set it to PPPoE? I mean how do you connect the linksys to what? The modem?

Am I correct in that, now that I've established that I can connect to SNBB via the bridged ST536v6 modem (via direct ethernet cable connection), I have to:

1) disconnect the ethernet cable from the laptop and plug it into the linksys wireless router's WAN port (the one that's labeled as "INTERNET")

2) Connect a 2nd ethernet cable (CAT 5) from one of the four "ETHERNET" ports on the linksys router to the laptop. This is to gain access to the Linksys webpage & change the setting to PPPoE.

3) Once the router settings have been done on the linksys website, unplug this 2nd ethernet cable then use laptop to establish wireless connection.

Correct?

By the way, if I intend to connect 2-3 more PCs to the SNBB, do I need to go to the Linksys website & key in their respective MAC addresses? Otherwise cannot establish connection right?

Actually I blew the entire weekend trying to set up my SNBB connection and I still can't get it right. Can connect to SNBB via direct modem but not through router. Thinking of giving up & calling a Singnet tech to come down & fix the modem & router. But it's such a waste of money :(

Guys, really need your help. Tolong leh!

That is correct, just that MAC ID filtering is not needed and can be ignored.

Well, I tried steps 1 to 3 and I still can't access the internet wirelessly. I set the PPPoE on the Linksys set-up page and disabled the linksys DCHP. Also cannot.

One thing though, when I did step 2 above, my laptop couldn't connect via the 2nd ethernet cable. So I direct connect the USB cable from modem to laptop and then access the linksys website from there.

Help! :(

Yup, did all that. I printed out your screencaps & followed step-by-step. Still cannot. Luckily I still haven't cancel my SH yet. Otherwise, my family members cannot access the internet wirelessly from their rooms (my SNBB modem ADSL line is in the hall. Hence, my reason for trying to connect it to my wireless router----so that family members can access from their rooms). After so many failed attempts over the last few days, I hard reset my linksys router (to get rid of previous settings, PPPoE, etc) and re-connected it to my SH cable modem.

Once I sort out my SNBB, then only I'll cancel my SH.

Gonna try all over again tonite when I get back. Sianz........

1. Download ISO file to create Residential CD

http://mirror.opensourcehub.com/pub/speedtouch/residentialCD/

2. Use Residential CD to set ST536v6 to bridge mode

See Screen Shots here:

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1908344

3. Connect ST536v6 to router WAN port

4. Connect computer to router LAN port

5. Set PPPoE on router

6. Surf the Internet

Sorry for the noobie question, so I only hook the modem to the router after the bridge mode has been completed?

I just converted the modem to bridge mode, and connect to my linksys router. I did port forwarding in the router, do I also need to do it in the modem as well? If yes, how?

Thanks Diavonex for the iso file

I tried it but it seems that at the the 75% mark of the 'bridging' process, the program will prompt to reboot. Upon clicking 'yes' to reboot, another prompt comes out saying that configuration isn't complete and if I wanted to really exit.

With this problem, I cannot set my modem to bridge mode!!!
this is so fustrating !

Help please!!

TIA
