actually i wanted to the 'harshness' hence i shot it a a very fast shutter speed, but good tip

Too boring at home so took out the new toys that I bought last week. Too lazy to do a proper backdrop so just used a table lamp as my light source and placed the figure on a mousepad on the chair.

Only changed the WB, reduced saturation and resize. First time shooting a toy, so pardon me if it sucks.

Shot @ F2.8, ISO400 using spot metering

But just curious is it needed to obtain shallow dof or blur image?

Normally for landscape lens uses only or cos lens have diff diameter lol

getting shallow dof is only one of the small usage during strong light such as flash photography.
thats lens dependent as well.

ND at different numbers mean how much light it blocks off.
usually to use slow shutter, we stop down aperture, but after certain level, you'll get lens diffraction which image quality is going to degrade as u stop down even more.

so in order to use slow shutterspeed in bright daylight for capturing stuff like moving water, cloud and the like, people use ND or even GND

laymen's term is like putting a darker piece of glass on ur lens, affecting the amount of light going in ur sensor. sometimes after using for e.g 10 stop ND, you could hardly see a thing from your view finder. totally like daytime become night time
