In term of photo output, do u prefer the Sony or the Sharp?

I think I prefer the Sharp as it has a smoother contrast and better exposed highlights. I feel sharp has better colours as well. The Sony sometimes blows highlights, but the Sony nails white balance more consistently.

Yes, seems a bit pricy for a Sharp smartphone. Especially now that Samsung S24 Ultra is selling at $1k (before vouchers) and even much less with 12-12 vouchers.

I think this phone is quite niche like Sony. Sell to lesser markets maybe that's why not cheap also. I don't think they are targeting mass market with the R9 pro.

Size of the sensor doesn't matter as much as the final output.

Sensor size does matter. That's why most photographers prefer full frame cameras over APS-C and four third cameras. Better dynamic range, lower noise, shallower dof. Also why phones have large camera bumps to accommodate bigger sensors for better quality photos. Software can only do so much.

R9 pro has a lot more useful features for camera enthusiasts, like the ability to attach a magnetic adapter for filters. This phone is really a photographer's camera, no fancy software filters or effects or extreme HDR, just good quality photography features. Somehow it reminds me of the Panasonic Lumix CM1 phone which I used to have also. A camera which has phone features, rather than a phone which has camera features.

Yes I agree sensor size does matter. There's a reason why I am still holding on to my 12s Ultra. Before this I was using Sharp Aquos R6. Now I have to see if Oppo is gatekeeping the X8 Ultra to China only, I have a Pixel watch 3 now but it sync to my DAP instead as pixel watches won't work on CN roms, and the pricing for Xiaomi 15 Ultra global, I really want to give others a try because I am quite disappointed with HyperOS, there's not much difference from MIUI. The major downside for me for R9 Pro is only the processor, if it was using even SD8G3 I would have grab it at launch. Nowadays I think I am no longer changing phones annually or every other year, so it's a valid concern.
