Able to obtain updates. Sg r9 pro.

Aquos Sense 8 & R9.
Sense 8 received the Android 15 upgrade about 3 weeks earlier.

Can someone share what is the feature that make you buy sharp phone. Finding an interesting phone as now all phone seems to be at a stagnant point....they basically same

Only if your phone is from docomo, then you will need a domestic Japan sim (can be a deactivated sim) from any of the Japanese telco to update. That is for my case on my previous phone Aquos R6 from Docomo. I used a deactivated Softbank sim to do all the updates on my R6.
As for my current SG set Aquos R9 pro, no problem at all to update with SG sim. Will receive the update once Sharp push it out.

The Aquos R9 pro 1/0.98" camera sensor produce very good photo quality.
And not many people are using Sharp mobile phone in SG as compared with Apple, Oppo, Oneplus, etc.

I like OEMs that use Android with minimal customisation.
Also to be different (eg: Using less common brands or models )

Initially I bought Sense 8 as it is a rare budget "compact" phone (Vanilla S24, Pixel 8, Pixel 8a & Sony mobile phones were the only contenders).

Moved on to R9 as I wanted something better (ironically less compact).

I bought the Sharp r8s pro and used it a few weeks now. Overall it's a phone i'm glad I bought for sgd$647 and not over $1000 at new flagship price. It came with a Sharp air purifier as a gift, and the air purifier is working quite well.

Some little points- has Qi2 which I only found out by accident, can input 5 fingerprints. Fingerprint is the least fussy i've seen, with a single press being enough when inputting your fingerprint.

The Good:
----------
- sd card slot- putting in a 512gb card gave me over 700gb, and I don't have to worry about monitoring memory nearly as much. I hate how expensive and inflexible non sd card slot phones are (one reason I did not go for r9 pro)
- quality of photos and vidoes. Pretty nice. 1 inch sensor makes a difference.
- transfer of data from my asus rog 6 to r8s was seamless, though I don't know if that's due to the sharp, the asus or both
- once most of the initial set up was done, it's mostly worked smoothly, battery is about 20% after a 13 hours day
- sound seems reasonable loud and clear

Fair:

- camera doesn't turn on immediately but takes about half a second, like it's taking it's time.
- adjusting brightness exposure is not smooth
- 3.5mm jack- on the cheap wired earbuds I have, the sound quality is worse than my asus rog 6 pro
- apps run normally
- less phone case choices, but have a couple of unique ones which allow camera filters
- back cover feels thin and weak. If you press slightly on the back or the screen the sound distorts, as if you're pressing on the speaker/s
- supposedly 2000 nits but brightest screen is slightly less than the brightest 1000 nits of my asus rog 6. I can live with it though
- battery doesn't increase if I have plugged in the charger and still using the phone. Often I will listen to an audibook, play polytopia or similar game, maybe download something, and the battery levl never increases. I'm using the same charger from the Asus Rog 6 , where the battery would always increase very quickly in comparison

Bad:

- battery started overheating last 2 days. Turning it off and leaving it a few minutes will solve it, currently doing an update hope it will help
- 1 time using phone outside in hot sun noticed the phone overheated- be careful
- the sound loudness has a step about 4/5, so it jumps and sometimes it's a bit hard to get the exact loudness level I want


Overall if there were no battery issues, it'd be quite a reasonable $600 phone.

Yesterday I saw there's an option for the battery to only charge when the screen is off and it'd been clicked on. I turned it off and it's charging when plugged in now.

The camera ring of the R8pro is what the phone uses for heat dissipation. So it's something to take note of, in case you got a phone case or camera accessory attached that blocks the heat from dissipating.

Did you turn on any of the intelligent charging options for the battery? That could be one of the reasons it's not charging while you're still using the phone.

Thanks, I'll take my case off for a day to see if there's any difference for the heat.

As for battery charge options, by coincidence yesterday I saw that very option--> there's an option for the battery to only charge when the screen is off and it'd been clicked on. I turned it off and it's charging when plugged in now. I came to edit my comment about this but you'd beaten me to it

btw , any lobang for wallet casing for ladies ? specially thinner ones ....... putting a few cards like badge and ID type

Try booting in Android Safe mode to rule out any possible application issues.
