they calculated for me...why I still need to exclude all these for myself ?

Hi jump in to your reply. I recently trying to book a hotel in Bangkok via Trip & Shopback. As usual, after i select shopback, Trip hotel price went up a lot, hence, i decided to skip shopback and book directly from Trip.Ok, this clause in the t&c, if pay later:
"However, after you select your Charge Currency, an additional amount of 5% of the price will be added (i) when Charge Currency is different from Display Currency"
if one is careful and select the display currency to be same as charge currency, there is no 5% additional charge.
The actual charges depends on the exchange rates for the day u pay vs the day u reserved. if want to lock in the rates u see, pay when u reserve the hotel. because the original rates is the local currency, so if the exchange rates r lower, u gain some. if higher, u lose some.Hi jump in to your reply. Not sure am i doing it correctly as my friends said otherwise. I usually select to display local currency when booking hotel via such booking website. However the credit card charged amount is higher than the display SGD rate i screenshot earlier. Does it mean my friends are correct, i should just use SGD rate to book instead?
most of the time the SGD currency amount is converted using spotrate by the website (trip, agoda, etc.). If you choose a foreign currency, high chance u get billed in the foreign currency and your bank charge you an addition 3.25-3.5% FX fee. make no sense to bill in foreign currency if you can use those 4m/$ spend card to book using SGD. In addition, it gives you the flexibility to cancel without suffering loss (except for agoda using DBS mastercard).Hi jump in to your reply. What platform did you use?The actual charges depends on the exchange rates for the day u pay vs the day u reserved. if want to lock in the rates u see, pay when u reserve the hotel. because the original rates is the local currency, so if the exchange rates r lower, u gain some. if higher, u lose some.
Recently I've been reserving hotels on agoda and booking. I compared between using Shopback and no Shopback. the price is the same somehow. so I book using Shopback. the rebates can be quite significant if using booking because the rebates can be as high as 6.5% or higher.
what platform do u mean? I use pc and phone to compare. maybe the ctry matters? I've been checking japan and taiwan. shopback and no-shopback is the same. What platform did you use?
I used pc and also mobile and my experience is totally diff from you. Shopback price is higher.
do note that once u have turn on shopback, the pricing is cached and even if you turn off shopback, the price wouldn’t change unless you use another platform to check.
no extra fcy fees if use youtrip, revolut type of cards. use sgd to pay eg japan hotels then will have to pay extra, according to the posts shared earlier.most of the time the SGD currency amount is converted using spotrate by the website (trip, agoda, etc.). you then check if got admin fee for those lor. But youtrip, revolut conversion to local currency also got spread + dont earn so much miles. one have to decide if the "interest saving" for paying later is worth it or not.no extra fcy fees if use youtrip, revolut type of cards. use sgd to pay eg japan hotels then will have to pay extra, according to the posts shared earlier.
i always opted to pay using local currencies near check-in date.
err... which card has no spread?you then check if got admin fee for those lor. But youtrip, revolut conversion to local currency also got spread + dont earn so much miles. one have to decide if the "interest saving" for paying later is worth it or not.
charge in SGD upfront got no spread since most of the booking website in SG convert at spot rate. you earn 4miles (if correct card) and benefit from card spend promo (i.e. DBS Alt 5m/$ and cash back promo stack). retain flexi to rebook if price drop (F.C weaken or rate drop) and retain benefit if F.C strengthen.err... which card has no spread?
using those cards are the best in minimising the exchange rates. why do u think they r so popular now? I dun know where u r going.
Some websites like agoda have a cross border transaction fee due to foreign payment processor. This fee is charged by visa or Mastercard. To avoid it, can only use Amex as even Youtrip will be charged this fee.For charges with sgd, would you still use youtrip?
I do share the same problem with swordspirit, see sgd in website like Agoda etc, charge to UOB card but later slap with CCY. Ask Agoda they said they not sg base thus they charge CCY. Nowadays, I change to local currency (eg, Japanese yen when booking Japan hotel) and just pay using Instarem or youtrip.
whatever promo with local credit card with Agoda or other hotel booking website, use with caution cos they might charge extra on poor exchange + CCY
U mean use amex for sgd spend in such website? Cos Amex exchange rate sucks. Some websites like agoda have a cross border transaction fee due to foreign payment processor. This fee is charged by visa or Mastercard. To avoid it, can only use Amex as even Youtrip will be charged this fee.
yes. cross border transaction fee is for payments charged in sgd but with overseas payment processor.U mean use amex for sgd spend in such website? Cos Amex exchange rate sucks.
Be prepared to refund straightaway . I did it. They tracked the 109 spent but tell me rejectedAnyone know what's the deal with 170% cashback on shopback?
Means they pay you to try? Can earn money this way?
For eg apple music 170%
Whats the catch because too good to be true?
Iirc youtrip cant be used for booking as it isnt a credit card. I tried to use it for one of the hotel booking and was told by Agoda to use a cc…For charges with sgd, would you still use youtrip?

Same for me… use pc and phone. Once trigger via shopback, the price is higherwhat platform do u mean? I use pc and phone to compare. maybe the ctry matters? I've been checking japan and taiwan. shopback and no-shopback is the same.
