Just wondering why nobody recommends the manufacturer's own oil?

Honda, Toyota, Lexus and Mercedes all got their own oil, iirc

Viscosity thicken or thinned according to temperature, if the manufacturer recommend 5w40, they mean it to be at max 100'c. And with every 10'c increase, like to 110'c then you should go 5w50 for it to act like 5w40 at 100'c.

If you see 120'c then you should choose w60 and so on, something like that.

Definitely, at 80'c+ your w40 will be acting like w60, you definitely can go w30 if you want to gain more power and FC.

Because Honda, Toyota, Lexus and Mercedes doesn't actually produce any oil, they just ask those oil manufacturer like Mobil or Shell relabel one of their products for them for sale.

Mobil or Shell themselves do carry a wide range of products range with different prices and performance so from the price quote, you more or less know which tier formula you are paying for.

If you want the best fuel economy for your car, just choose the thinnest oil that your owner manual recommended. Usually it is 0w20 or 5w20, so go for it, no point save $20? on getting 5w40 and yet pay $5 extra everytime you pump petrol by losing mileage. From w40 to w20, usually you gain around 30-60km per tank.

Labour cost for oil change at mxtradings are $12. So for example

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w20 $16 x 4quart = $64
oil filter = $6
So total = $64 + $6 + $12 = $82

this is another reason why i don't change to later gen of vw car is because their oil temp hovers around 90+ to 100+

while my stoneage car is 80+ range
maybe because cause of the built in water heat exchanger used to cool the engine oil

Trying Lexus 5w-40 in my Corolla now. Just used for 300km
Previously Mobil 1 Gold 0w-40

usually i can only feel the "new engine oil" for a short while. Engine seems more alive for a few days. after that, it goes back to feeling normal.

This was tried with several brands from Amazon. I guess engine oil really not much different ba, unless u driving some sports car.

Feeling can be misleading and not all engine oil are created equally.

In fact, if you look at the testing below, those unknown/relabel products have the most problem and some will actually do damage to your car engine.

Schaeffer fully syn 5w40 at $13.50/quart, $54 + $12 + $6(most jap car model). Schaeffer 5w40 is actually very good just do a Google on it and there is lots of review in BITOG forum.

For Toyota is rebranded with their own formulation
So they take the base stock and additives are formulated and produced by outsource company

Why would you change it every 7500kms? Modern cars all have change intervals of 10000km and above.
